I sold my fto back in march and have recently recieved the rego renewal. The sale was cash so i dont have a reciept, and i lost my part of the Notice of Disposal. I do not know the name of the buyer and the only thing i have is his mobile number but he has not had his phone turned on for 5 days now. The RTA cannot do anything without a name or address.

what can i do?

I dont really want to go to the police but it looks like my only choice?

why didnt you submit your notice of disposal as soon as you sold it?

Don't he need the name of the buyer and their signature to complete the notice?

that part shouldve been completed when you sold it?

leave it... dont do sh*t... the car will just become unregistered...

if he gets pulled over and fined... he'll come looking for you

I've had similar problems before, had an old Ford Laser stolen from me many years ago, started getting parking fine 2 years later. When the cops asked "Why didn't you report it stolen?" I said, because I didnt give a sh*t, car cost me a case of beer Still, I had to pay all the fines... almost $1100 bucks worth! Some Abo had flogged it & parked it the middle of an intersection in Redfern... and with my name still as the registered owner, it was my problem. Had to pay to get it towed, then destroyed too. Ended up a $2000 story.

but wont i get fined if it is pulled over?

just cancell the rego that will force him to rego it into his name you have the rego papers... just go to the RTA in your state and cancell it now before he robbs a bank with your plates on it. then if he gets pulled over he will get the fine not you.

to cancell the rego i will have to hand in the plates. some how i dont think it will work without the car. hmm

you dont have to hand the plates in...silly billy just ring the rta and tell them you need to cancel the reg on your car number plate xyz123 and they will tell you exactly what to do next.

ok thanks craig, will cancel the rego on wednesday.
