hey im getting a stereo put in my fto and i figured y not let the auto elec slap in the hid's n other stuff while doing it coz i couldn't b bothered atm. He told me they could b dangerous said something about cheaper ones can send the voltage back through the car when they shut down and fry everything (25v back into a 12v battery) from ecu to stereo..
Anyone ever had that happen to them??
Kinda worried but i know a lot of u guys bought them also so it won't just b mine that gets smashed if they fail!

hrmmm. Never had a problem with cheap HIDs.
cheap ones can b dodgy but i never seen or hear someone say`n their car stuffed up due to HIDs faulty.
only thing is i seen n heard is ballast dies out.
cheap ones wont last as long as ADR approved ones but on the other hand it will cost u a fortune.
what i would sugguest is mount the Ballast away from heat. because they can get hot.
Make sure you tape up the clips with electrical tape.
keep the 2 looms from the ballast apart.
jus mount it near the side fenders away from engine.
but dont think im right. i could be wrong. Just keep watch on what people say in here.

By far the most useful mod I've done to mine. You'll never go back to squinting into the murky darkness and think "Is that a corner coming up?"

Let me give u a little bit abt cheap HIDs. Fact is, they come from the same factory as the expensive ones u see. More or less most of them come from China and produced by the same group of factories . Its just that damn sticker which gives the brand name which makes it expensive. I've got a guy that sold me Siemens HID...it cost only $160 bucks. Another brand cost only $130 called GPusi (sounds crude eh). And when i compared it, it looked the same. Branding sucks sometimes.

Exactly bud. Most of the kits available in the UK are simple plug and play lits with about 30 - 45 mins installation time but as you say, a bad set up creates all sorts of problems and this is usually by a third party grease monkey who hasn't got a clue.
PS Don't laugh but what's a "douche"?
