MOTOR CONVERSION SUGGESTIONS

Ok seeing as my motor is prob fu#$ed I want some info if others may be able to share
bearing in mind this wont be for two years as will be away but I want to get parts before we go
1. I'm going to put a VR4 6A13TT or 6A12TT in which is better fit? as I know one does bolt straight onto factory mounts
2. Does this mate up to original tip box? or will i better to buy vr4 manual box and do conversion at same time and remove driveshaft?
3. If it does mate to my tip box will tip ecu become an issue? I know will need to change current main ECU however have heard you can wire into original GR still?
4. I know will need slimline fans where can I buy these?
5. Seeing as will purchase complete motor incl intercooler turbos etc what will I need to make in terms of piping? I would assume just custom exhaust?
6. Or would it just be a lot easier to put in evo motor with box running off front wheels only?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Perhaps some life-advice first...
If you're going away for two years, you might want to think again about whether you wanna go ahead with sourcing parts now.
1. In two years time you could be in a totally different space and wanna do something completely different. You mightn't even be 'into' cars anymore.
2. You'd be wasting a lot of money buying all these parts now as opposed to in 2 years because of the way our cars are depreciating at the moment.
Just a thought.

Thanks I can tell you now that I will always be into cars and of course chicks lol
You are are correct about prices but here in NZ its considerably cheaper to purchase motor etc than it is for you guys and with more import restrictions happening here these type of motors/cars are becoming more and more rare so if I dont buy parts now it is enirely possibly I may never get them or they will be way too expensive
So back to original questions at top of thread any suggestions
Back thanks for advice anyway nicholas

the 6A13TT is the better fit, the 6A12TT is the wrong way around
2. Does this mate up to original tip box? or will i better to buy vr4 manual box and do conversion at same time and remove driveshaft?
the tip box will mate up, but you will have wiring issues, its a better idea to go for a manual fto box
3. If it does mate to my tip box will tip ecu become an issue? I know will need to change current main ECU however have heard you can wire into original GR still?
ecu will be an issue
4. I know will need slimline fans where can I buy these?
ebay, super cheap, autobarn etc etc
5. Seeing as will purchase complete motor incl intercooler turbos etc what will I need to make in terms of piping? I would assume just custom exhaust?
custom turbo manifolds and intercooler piping. custom IC piping definately
6. Or would it just be a lot easier to put in evo motor with box running off front wheels only?
theres not much info on this conversion so im assuming its harder

Thanks a lot jonno
I cant understand why some people have spent 25K on this conversion as it is fairly straight forward for what I can tell
I have spoken to ftoevolution who has done this and also lives in CHCH he seemed to think was fairly easy to do I have also had a look at his setup and to me it does look like a straight forward swap?
Also from memory he did not have custom manifolds setup and I believe you can do this with original 6A13tt manifolds
Im not after insane power just a simple conversion

if you move to sydney and buy the half cut... im willing to have a crack at it for you

just trying to source best way to do it

i rkn an 6a13tt is better for parts compared with the 6a12tt.
do an manual conversion.
and also make sure u read up abt the engine. especially maintance.
6a13tt fit perfect
6a12tt is opposite from the fto current engine set up
i was planning on doing the conversion with and 6a13tt before some fossil stack into my fto.
plans were to turn the fto into an weapon where people will no longer think its a piece of s***.
but now im really stressing coz finding an nose cut for the fto is hard.
but once its back on road mayb my plan for the little beast will go on. =D
good luck. hope things work out for ya

cert is no issue as long as safe its no prob we even have to cert adjustable springs

aslong as the vehicles Rd worthy then its not an issue

just get a Gen3 and east-west mount it into the FTO.

ok, heres my opinion
1) 6A12tt is completely unusable
6A13tt

The perfect conversion, lose the 2 turbos and go for 1, more power less lag etc etc
2) Yes it will mate up
3) You will need a 6a13tt ecu and a piggyback ecu if you want to run a tip box. If you go manual then just go stand alone or standard
4) You dont neccesary need slimline fans, i believe ill just get away without them. It depends on manual or tip, tip has more room at the back but less in the front. Manual has less in the back but more in the front
5) All pipe work will be custom if you lose the 2 turbos but this shouldnt be as much as what ppl have quoted in the past. I have been quoted (now that i dont have much time on my hands) $1700 to mount the turbo and do all exhaust fabrication.
6) Goodluck with that.

. If your gonna do that go the whole way and awd

Your right simon but I still believe can pretty much do simple conversion with twin turbo and only need litlle pipe fabrication it will be tight but sure it will fit
I will change to manual box and just use original 6A13tt ECU
But as stated in other thread I do have option to do straight gpx with manual box swap too just trying to convince missus to do it before we leave

Ok still after more info after dredging through all the turbo forums
Only other option with not much about it is the early evo (1 to 3) conversion
Now motor to get over here not so much of an issue but if anyone can help would like to confirm a few things......
It will be straight fit onto factory mounts?
Will it bolt up to 6A12 manual gearbox? (would rather this than use evo box and weld up the rear change driveshafts ETC)
ECU would assume that a aftermarket stand alone would suit much more than evo ecu? correct me if i'm wrong but a standard evo ECU would still be trying put power down to all 4 wheels?
Room in the engine bay I'm guessing would be plenty for pretty much a direct drop and bolt in with maybe some small pipe fabrications?
If any one has seen it done or even looked into this some feedback would be appreciated

BUMP
Still looking for evo conversion info anyone know anything?

the evo 1 - 3 engine mount is on the wrong side
you'll have to use evo 4+
the rear tailshaft can be locked using a locking nut for about $200, ive got a link to a shop that sells that, ill post it up when i get home
the F5M42 gearbox (manual fto) will not fit the 4g63 engine
to use the evo gearbox you'll need to get evo hubs and driveshafts
mounts will bolt up

Thanks jonno so far sounding like easier and possibly cheaper option more research to come I think

The jap's have gotten the fto gearbox to mate up to the 4g63 with modifications before so keep searching around vipfto. In saying that though, may be a better option to use the evo box anyways 1. cos of the ratio's and 2. cos it was built to handle that much power in the first place.

^^ agree with yano if you evo then go evo box. Yes the 6A13tt will fit, its been done successfully, however as i said before lose the 2 turbos and go 1. "Why", i hear you ask becuase after time you will be dissappointed with the power the 2 puts out, both ppl i know that have done it have regretted it. and secondly the most important part is it is SOOOOOOOO much easier with the engine out. Thirdly going from 2 turbos to one isnt going to be that much more expensive anyway
