I done busted it - error code help

So here's the deal, I was belting down erm... the drag strip... (8O) and after a solid hit of nos, I pulled in with the engine light on solid.

Error code diagnosis was a bit odd...

I had 2 short flashes, then 1 long flash - indicating 21
I then had 2 short flashes, then 1 long flash - indicating 21 (exactly the same as before...)
Then I had 3 short flashes, then 6 long flashes - indicating 36

The sequence would then repeat.

Now 21 is the Engine coolant temperature sensor (the 2 wire ECU temp sender unit) and 36 is Ignition Timing Adjustment Signal... I know what the iginition timing is, but why is it giving me this?

And why is it giving me the first code twice?

I plugged into my laptop & tried to run Evoscan's 'DTC' codes pickup function, but kept getting 'Unable to connect to ECU' messages... yet I was able to take an Evoscan log (aka the the Evoscan link is working fine.)

Have attached an Evoscan log for those that can interpret them.

www.ftoaustralia.com/downloads/Evoscan_log_20072008.xls

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! The car now starts like a dog, but drives fine - with the exception of a high idle - ie 1500rpm.

Thanks for all your help guys

Turns out I've been reading the codes wrong. Its long flashes first, then short. This gives:

12 - Air flow sensor
13 - Intake air temerature sensor
62 - Intake air control valve position sensor

So I checked the MAF sensor & low & behold, the plug had come loose. It was the cause of all the follow on errors in the air flow system as well.

Reseated the MAF plug, reset the battery to clear the codes, runs fine this morning. No engine light at all.

Also explains all the zeros' in the Evoscan log, in the "Air Flow" column

My $0.02 for any code like that, would have been first response ... "Hmm maybe PM Bennoz" .... Since it was you, well, you may not of been able to answer your own PM ... But you found out the problem ...

Maybe I should have asked you to PM yourself, as you sorted it out ...

 Well, in a case like that, aka someone pm'ing me with a question like that, I woulda gone away & read some manuals to find out... which is what I did anyway

I think at the end of the day, I need to go stiffen my engine mounts... the old nos hit is really jiggling the block around.. so much so its pulling plugs out :|

The first big nos hit I used actually shunted the front subframe out of whack. We just bolted it in extra hard where it lay & wheel aligned to suit

I to just did a cod check and came up with 3 :?

12 = Air flow sensor

13 = Intake air temperature sensor

22 = Crank angle sensor

would all 3 of these cods make me loss power yes or no ?

codes 12 and 13 how can I fix them ? just get new ones and chang them ?

I know I will have to chang the cran angle sensor with a new one, what would the number of cases for that job Ben :D

with thanks
Aza :D

+1, Usually crank angles sensors just stop working... and yes you wont be able to start the car if it goes Aza... Having said that, Simon's having the same error code & his car is still going.

Let me just double check Sat morning is ok at my end too Sugar.

Aza, those first 2 codes are exactly what I had as you can read above. I doubt both would fail at once, but if one is unplugged, it would certain effect the other - also as seen above. I'd be checking your MAS sensor is plugged in. I've never had the chance to play with a GPX one thou... apparently its just up the back of the throttle body / intake manifold. Have a look round for any loose plugs or plugs that may need reseating.

I'd reckon that it would cause a power loss, I think the ECU tells the car to run lean if it cant detect air flow - ie I've got no air, therefore I shouldnt add much fuel.

the reason I say its on its way out is how the car starts evey now and then, some times it starts after 3 cranks and other times after about 20 and then slowly fires up with a little splutter :? more so after a good run/ track, more so when the motor heats up to a high temp and I dont vent the heat out of the bay after stopping.
as for the first two I will have a look around thanks Ben.
I have cleared the codes and am going to run it for a bit and recheck them again to see if they come back.
