Im in the market to buy a car, but its a toss up between a 6th gen celica or a FTO, one thing that turning me away from ftos is the spare parts, ive just been hearing a lot of negative comments about parts are slightly harder to come by compared to say the celica, and priced slightly more, since its an import car.
Is this somewhat true? Oh yes and the whole issue that toyota is a more trust worthy brand than Mitsubishi

the FTO dos have a high $$$ for parts if you go to Mistubishi but we have a parts man called dstocks

so the $$ are cut by up to 1/2
as for toyota being a more trust worthy brand than Mitsubishi that only comes down to the older mitsi cars 1st gen magnas a so on, the FTO if looked after is a very trust worthy car

Yep, I can get any part new from Japan (at japanese trade price) if requred. There are also plenty of wreckers around the place that stock FTO bits too. AS to reliability, as aza said, its all down to how you drive and maintain it, same as any car. The FTO got Japanese car of the year in 95. This included besting the celica at the time.

i love my fto and would never buy a celica over a FTO, however generally speaking a toyota is a much better manufactured car. Thats why its THE most sold car in australia and many other counties and thats saying something especially having to go up against the commowhore and falcon.
The FTO is the most sexiest car on the market under 50k IMO and its only rival over that price range is the batman rx7.
But dont think for a second that parts are hard to come by, because of ppl like dstocks etc thats just not the case.

So more or less im putting my decision of spare parts into dstocks? lol what happens when he disappears and i have to may premium at the dealers?
Im interested in a car which is tiptronic, but was looking for a manual can anyone speak on behalf oh how well tiptronic goes against manual?

Go the manual if you have a choice.
And youll have to prize my FTO from my dying fingers before I go anywhere

. Lets face it, im obsessed and not going anywhere any time soon. Besides. even if that were to happen, I would hand my connections to another club member or the club itself. Have already discussed this with the committee.

Everyone knows my opinions on tips......I love them, however
- they are more complicated than manuals, therefore more things CAN go wrong and will be more expensive to fix. As long as they have been serviced regularly though you shouldnt have a problem.
- Tips have more power loss than manuals so if you want that extra second on the 1/4 mile go manual, but in saying that the extra second may be wasted by quicker and more consistent shifts in the tip.
- Take offs in a manual will also be faster.
- When sitting in traffic the tip rocks, you can still be drinking your coffee will resting your feet on the dash
- You cant get a paddle shift kit for a manual
So at the end of the day there are pors and cons for both, you need to look at your age, where you drive, what you plan on doing to the car, and how you plan on driving the car. If you young get a manual.
Also more and more FTO's are being imported and written off everry month now so parts are no longer the problem (aswell as dstocks the GOD of parts)

Parts - there are also a few copies of a parts program floating around that also identifies if there is an equivalent part - from some other mitsu.
Tips - pays to look after them, I've always used the Redline ATF in mine, its a little more $$$ than average - but worth it, also replace the filters, no point putting the good fluid in if you dont change the filter.
We've never had any trouble getting parts and between the 2 FTO's we have - 1 GPX, 1 GR - nearly everything has been replaced at one time or another
If you really want a manual - we have one of them for sale as well - however, not the same price as the black one - the manual is quite modified- but if someone offers us 10K or above - we'd consider it sold.

you can run a 95ron in it but the 98ron would be a lot better for it
