The coolant sysrem should be completelyflushed every 40,000kmJOeJOe wrote:If its the same fluid then top it up. If the stuff already in the car is different to what you just bought then flush the system and top it up with the new fluid.

dont put gearbox oil in your clutch reservoir! your clutch isnt what makes your gears notchy.
the gearbox has a filler plug and a drain plug, obviously drain the old sh*t out first, but you need something like a grease gun, but can hold oil instead. you can buy them from supercheap etc. if you want the best oil, buy redline shockproof, my gears were a little notchy at high rpm, but that stuff fixed it, and doesnt have to be changed for 400,000km (four hundred thousand). my opinion anyways.
that tectaloy coolant, dont pour it down the radiator as pure concentrate, and forget to add water. mix accordingly to the ratio specified on the bottle. to flush the cooling system, just take off all the hoses and chuck your garden hose in every hole on the engine and radiator til no more green comes out.
power steering doesnt need to be flushed, cant really get contaminated by anything. most PS fluid is the same as auto transmission fluid.

hmm i was just ogign to take out the drain plugs thowse two plugs and jsut let it drain mate. The tectaloy stuff i bought was pre made mate well pre mixed so i dont need to add water.so basically i just add the tectaloy striaght to the radiator.Quick question though how many litres do i need to add to it?Also with the power steering mate i dono what was in there previously so iis it still ok to top up with the mobil power steering fluid or shuld it be flushed?if it needs to be flushed how do i do the pwoer steering fluid?manofwood wrote:dont put gearbox oil in your clutch reservoir! your clutch isnt what makes your gears notchy.

there's bugger all difference between most PS fluids, they arent acidic or alky like some brake fluids. every car i've had i just used Dexron 3 oil, thats pretty much what every car can use.
you keep filling the coolant to the top. i dont know if the FTO had it, but on engines there will be a bleed screw at the highest point of the engine's cooling system, normally around where the top radiator hose conects to the engine. undo that, and keep filling the radiator/ overflow until coolant starts coming out of the bleed screw, then tighten it back up and put all lids and caps back on.

you only need to do that when changing the pump or the rack, dont you? you can use the feed/ return lines on the rack as the drain points, being the lowest points of the PS system, if you're not changing the rack or pump over.
i opened that page and saw 'shove it up your ass', i thought oh crap

Its easier just to pull the return line off the actual resevior & run the car for a second (with the line going into a bucket.) Just make sure to drain the resevior first (without turning the car on.)
Just becareful not to pull the line out of the pump off... you can be in for a nasty surprise, that line has the fluid at approx 9,000 psi when heading into the rack

ok done the power steering...now im not to confident with ripping off hoses and shoving garden hoses in there lmao is it ok if i just drain the radiator from that one drain plug on the lower left corner then top up with the stuff i have?can it cause any damage? And you fill directly in to the radiator cap yes?do you also have to fill teh clear bottle resavoir in the engine bay?
shh im still learning lol

Did you properly re-pressurize the power steering system? Like turning the wheels from left to right while adding fluid?
If you drain the radiator from that plug, you'll only get half of it out. Remember to remove the radiator cap when you do undo the plug other wise you'll create yourself a vacuum in there & f**k all will come out. And yes, you fill from the radiator cap.
