Have you had a look in the factory tool kit? The one in the boot with the jack handle etc. All GPX's came with them (unless of course it been lost or pinched.)

OK so call me a nOOb coz i just had a look for a tool kit in the boot of our fto ( gr ) n i cant find 1.
Didnt know they had 1. Where do they hide m ? R they avail or are they nothing special.
P.S. by the way the plugs are 5/8 as opposed to a standard plug you would find in a ford or holden which are 13/16
Hope this helps

Try looking at the left hand side of the boot. There should be a cardboard cover over it and u just have to lift the cover up. Thats where mine was.

Its actually a specially made tube spanner - as a tube spanner is only thing small enough to get in the hole. So yeah, 5/8 tube spanner will do it.
Those of you trying to find the factory spanner, it will look like one of these:

i got a 3/8" drive, 16mm spark plug socket and ground 2 flats on the sides to clear the flats on the inside of the hole. then i used a 3/8" short extension with a 3/8"-1/2" adapter and then my ratchet driver.
this worked gr8 on the front plugs, but i havent tried the rear ones yet.
a factory tool kit would be great, but how much $$$ are they? maybe cheaper to just duplicate with aftermarket tools.

Found a pic of the real thing. Is the one on the right that comes with the toolkit.
The toolkit is available. You'd have to call Mitsi too find out thou... Also keep in mind there are a number of variations to the kit throughout the years as older parts were superceded.
Part numbers as per the pic:
Jack 99211 - MB621153 or MB621127
Tool Set 99010 - MR244552
Wheel nut socket wrench 99327 - MB621147 or MB621148
Jack Extension Bar 99201 - MR297378 or MR297379
