forged pistons

just a few questions...

do forged pistons on a NA 6a12 put out more power?? or on any engine?

does it allow for higher revs? ect?

what are the benefits?

So does this mean i could take the rev limiter higher... and rev 9k?
would this produce more power?

Would it be feasible on a NA setup?

increasing the rev limiter to 9K won't do you much good unless you have NA mods which produces HP at the top end... to increase the rev limiter, you'd need a tuned engine management system and lighter valvesprings to cope with the increased reciprocational force...

Usually when increasing the rev limiter also means you would have forged pistons fitted as well because naturally there will be increased combustion as a result from mods which gives top end power...

I donno much about this, but would fitting better cams increase the top end power of the na engine? Will this result in torque loss in the lower revs... :?

What would be some other advantages/disadvantages...

In the situation that GPXXX described, would better cams help?

I read that in general the cars emissions would go up... Would some of the cam upgrades by illigal due to that... Is that true... :?

Sorry for the silly questions, but i'm still trying to understand all this... so i though i might post these questions while we were on the subject of na mods... :)

depends on the specs of the cams... some cams are made for mid-range torque, some for high end as well... I believe RPW have some performance cams but again, there are not much info on them so to me i wouldn't think of it as a proven mod due to lack of dyno figures and/or testimonials etc....

as a general rule of thumb, if you retain the current 2000cc capacity, the more HP you extract in NA form, the more likely it will be in the top end at the expense of torque down below (which means compromised throttle response for day to day driving)...

as for legalities, unless you pass EPA emissions test to obtain the relevant paperwork (which costs $$$), you will always run into the risk of being dicked by a cop on a power trip... :roll:

increasing the rev limit can also pose most problems on certain parts of the car, one is the tranny and torque convertor.

If i had the change in increase power at a certain rpm is would definatly be the mid range!

also people should not forget 2000CC's NA should not be compared to 3000CC's + Turbos.

If the FTO had 2500CC is would transform the powerplant noticably.

Whats the NM rating of the FTO? 200NM?

IT would be nice if a stroker kit was available for the FTO. Longer stroke, more torque!

I guess mitsubishi wanted a high power figure for the FTO, so they ordered revs and sacrificed power end power.

yes the FTO has 200NM in stock trim...

apparently RPW is working on a MIVEC head adapted to a 6A13 block, effectively turning it into a 2.5l V6 with MIVEC.... sounds very interesting indeed, the extra 500cc would help quite a lot in the low end I'd imagine....

food for thought: the 6A13 in stock trim makes 363NM (with the twin turbos fitted). what would it be like without the turbos? Guess we'll just have to find out when RPW releases the kit...
