Guys, as you seen lately, we've had an influx of spam posts appearing on the board.
This is usually in indicator to me, that I need to apply the latest patches to the site - which Im doing today. So if the site in a bit funny over the next few hours, thats why. These patches are a pain in the ass to apply, hence I've been putting if off.
The spam that hits us is all automated spam bots - so replying to the thread & telling them to f**k off is effectively pointless, you will get no reply. In fact it only propogates the issue. Some spam bots can tell if their information has been seen.
Hopefully these patches will stop them coming in. In the mean time, please ignore them, a moderator will see it eventually & move it off the board. I'll then ban the IP & remove the user name from the database.

of course this in techy speak is: I found this, i dont know what it is, but i do this to it anyway...
or: now you will be distracted with 2 other problems and will not notice the original one anymore lol
anyways, i think i should go back to work

good work ben
but i still like my idea of giving all oldies some powers to remove/edit posts by guests or newbies with less than a couple posts. and if someone abuses this power than they will be spanked. just my 2cent... or maybe i like the idea of spanking

lol, no if you want nitty gritty details, the servers cgi scripts had corrupted & I had to recreate new ones to tell the server how to interact with the forum software.
Right, we have now been patched with the latest phpnuke patches.... *wipes brow*... always an ass of a job & I always manage to break the site when I do it
Only thing left to fix is the 'no pics' issue on the home page. Upgrades always do it, as the later versions of nuke have the pic feature disabled. Just gotta rememkber what file I need to edit to enable it

*Googles*
Please let me know of any other irregularities.

I use IE and have only seen the gibberish once and that was ages ago.
Hey ben if there is anything i can do to take the pressure off let me know, im not really up too speed with the technical side of websites but am quite happy to do anything to help maintain, clean up, or post, to help out.

I'll have a think about that mate.
Awesome news too, after fiddling with the database & creating some new tables, the 'Web Links' section of the site is now working!
Now you guys can add the links yourself, if you know some good ones, just submit them by hitting the 'weblinks' link on the left of screen, then hit 'new link'
Please be concise & not stupid with your descriptions, as I have to approve / edit them before they come up in the main links menu

Everything seems to be working really well after the upgrades

Some of the patches were to increase the speed of the software too. Looking good at the moment!

Doesnt seem to have completely solved the issue
Oh well, it usually comes in waves. This has happened before, I'll just keep blocking the IP's & removing the users.
