Is this soon after youve started the car. If so, that will be the computer retarding the engine because the car hasnt warmed up properly

its really hard to explain like a clunking noise sorry not great detail noises are so hard to explain

There could be a problem with the alternator thats causing mivec to be not working but that doesnt explain the clunking noises

its like when it trys to hit mivec it cant but it still trys to would that make some sort of noise. Oh and sorry to sound like a noob but why does mivec not work when the alternator is playing up?

not really sure, someone else may be able to help you out there. all i know is the mivec alterntor has four pins so compare to the gr withs with 2. Im thinking that when the car hits mivec it could send a surge of power to something (or everything). So if the ecu recognises that there is a problem with alternator it stops allowing mivec to come on. Now i could be completly off i dont know, just kinda of thought it while i was writting lol

Think its to do with the current draw. The alternator for a mivec certainly has something in there for it, because people that have put in GR alternators by mistake, dont get mivec

well alternator was charging at 14.2 to 14.5 and how exactly does the 4 pin alternator work with the mivec

Not sure but the question has been asked a lot but no one seems to know

it only does it when you go 'hard' to 5500 rpm +?
If you take it easy getting to mivec does it 'engage'?
does it just make a sound, and then return to the low range cams despite being over 5500rpm when you go hard at it?

The mivec alternator has 4 pins as it has a secondary output. The oil valve actuation that put the pins into the second rocker arms requires a pretty heavy power hit - hence the extra output.

yeah its when going full throttle over 5500 rmp + mivec will sometimes engage and sometimes doesnt
and when it makes the noise it a continues noise and not engaging mivec then i release the throttle because i dont want to break anything
dont know about taking it easy to mivec because when i use mivec i am driving the car hard

ok went to get ecu codes out and we followed the website http://www.ftowa.com/html/workshop/workshopart07.html shorted pin 1 to earth to recover the codes [engine managment flashed constantly but the abs light was doing the blink code] it gave me a code 13 [ inlet air temperature ] is it right that the abs light gives out the codes ? do you think that this would cause my problems that i am having?

Do you get a nasty shudder thru the pedal when it happens?

Hmm... Where is the Air temperature sensor in a GPX? Does it have one? (wheres CAPS when you need it! )
