Moving from NZ to Au

Post by vipfto »

Hey guys might be moving to adelaide later in year from NZ because of missus but I'm thinking of taking my fto too....... Does anyone know what I need to do? is it easy? does it cost much? do I need to make car comply with anything etc?
I dont know if we will go yet and I have to decide if car is more important than her or if its to difficult to bring with me

Well welcome .... (If you come here) ....

I think it is pretty easy to get the car over... You will still have to get it complianced (I think), but as you are moving from NZ it is meant to be easier.... Not sure on cost though ...

First off why adelaide its a hole........ jk

I looked into before i moved here and it would of been well worth it. But now im not so sure prices of cars are dropping and i believe will continue to

First i would look at how much would you get for it if you sold it tomorrow?

That gives you what the car is worth. Nz Car value = x.

Now how much would it cost you to buy the same car in AU with all the aftermarket parts you have on now. AU car value = y.

So if you minus y from x you have how much the maximum you should spend importing your car.
Y - X = W (total allowable import cost)

Cost im not sure about now but it depends on how long you have owned your car now (well thats what it used to be). For example 8 years ago when i wanted to import my car because i didnt own it for a full year import tax was going to be HALF the cars value.

the reason for adelaide is thats where she has a work visa for
:(
but I used to live in Sydney and cant say I rate it there either

thanks for the info I have put so much dollars into it prob close to 25/30 thou so dont think i want to sell in hurry
The biggest thing that worries me is I heard that aus only accepts so manyt imports per year which might mean I miss out or does that vary per state?
Guess would have change a shitload for complience then
a lot of mods are illegal here

8O That doesnt sound right to me at all, lat time i checked you have to comply everything if it is not in the country of origin, even nz and aus have different seatbelt regulations
