Hey all, been looming around these forums for a little bit and you all seem like a nice bunch so thought I'd finally make my first post!

I'm currently driving a Hyundai Accent, but recently have fallen in love with the FTO. Absolutly stunning car, so I've made the decision to save up a bit and sell my Hyundai and find me an FTO GPX Manual.

I do have a few little questions about it though.

What are these cars like to live with? Are they reliable or is it sorta a constant worry of whats going wrong next?

How much on average does it cost to fill a tank, and how many KM does that last?

And lastly, what are the general things to go wrong with FTO's? I've read around a bit and seen alternators and belts?

Pretty much the only thing that is worrying me about this car is the reliability, being that it is most probably a car that would've been pushed pretty hard pretty often, and they're aging a bit plus the fact they're a gray import.

Thanks all :).

PS - If anyone in SA is thinking of selling within the comming months, please lemme know!

They are reliable cars and good for day to day driving if you find a good one (regular service, owner that has taken care of the car etc). Petrol wise, a full tank (60L) would get you 400-about 600kms (if you do a search there is a thread on this - it also depends on how you drive....do you floor it every now and then, let the revs go up ? ). From my experience i have noticed that when i have started meddling with things in the car, thats when something goes wrong. Normally, if you keep the car in good condition nothing should go wrong. But in saying that, there is quite a few people here that have more experience with fto's and im sure they will be more help.

it is a reliable car as long as it is regularly serviced. but the same goes for any car really. It is a great car to live with, great around town, great on mountain roads and great just cruising down a highway, it is very comfortable to drive

i have a GPX and as for petrol, running a 60L tank of premium usually gets me about 550 km and that includes having a bit of fun, a tank usually costs me about $80,

if you find a car in good condition you shouldn't have much of a problem with it

GL with the search.

Thanks guys for the reply!
That pretty well sums up my questions, I do definatly drive with a flat foot from time to time and am rather supprised to hear your personal averages, maggsy, was expecting more like 400km to the full tank.

All I know is that this has just made the wait for one even worse!
