Hey guys,
i know this has been asked before, i tried searching and looked through most of the threads however, none are up-to-date, they go way back to 05/06. I'm just wondering if anyone can give me an estimate of total costs of DIY importing FTO in 2008?
Main reason is cos i heard DIY is cheaper, i looked at most of the ftos available on carsales/tradingpost etc. good ones i cant afford, cheaper ones have cracked interior or have been thrashed really badly etc
cheers!

most od the FTOs on carsales are ~10-11k...I doubt importing will be less than that.

Yes they will. FTOs in Japan are going for between $250 and 3K. Importng costs will end up at around 6K. Later models (eg 1999) and GPvR can go for more - a 1999 Version R in good condition with low mileage will set you back around 6K. Add import costs to that. The sites to check out are here:
http://www.completefto.com.au/CompleteFTO.asp?hid=262
The two to try are I-AUC and USS (both have passwords listed against them)
Good Luck. I bought mine on I-AUC and imported it. Best decision I ever made.

I was lucky and got a beaut from importing a couple of years ago. Would definately do again...
I had a local importer bring it over for me. His guy checked it over that end, he did all the work, shipping, paperwork etc, and his fee was surprisingly cheap.
Would be tempted to fly over and look myself if there's a next time though - now I know what i'm looking for!

Yep.
As a Rough estimate:
1K auction fees
2K shipping
2.5K compliance
.5K GST and other bits and pieces
This is just a rough estimate though.

Yeah but importing to NZ is way more easier (and cheaper) than here in aussie. Silly idiots havent caught on yet
However i do agree with dstokes it would work out cheaper to import than buy one from here...... marginally. I looked into this a while ago and from memory the cost were gonna be around the 6k mark. I think the car (for a good one though is more like 2.5k and frieght is more like 1k. Also im pretty sure someone was doing this a few months ago
