No, you dont need to take the door off. But you do have to dismantle most of the innards in order to get the glass in. Take off the door lining and start unscrewing. Make sure you note where each of the parts comes from and which screws/bolts go where.
Good Luck. I have done this a couple of times and its a bit of a pain adjusting it all up to work properly again. Hope you get lucky!

thanks. i have the plastic bit off now and i have unscrewed most of the screws after this. all i am waiting for now is a socket so i can get to the other bolts. other then that i hope my window will arrive soon. i am just getting everything prepared so i can put the window straight in as soon as it comes as i need my car asap. is there a guide on how to put the actual window in ? or is it pretty straightforward once i get to it ?

Not broken. It is one of the bits that bolts to the glass. Your new window may have that bit attached or it might have been removed to get the window out. Unscrew the bits and toss the glass. It fits on the inside of the glass in one of the two middle holes at the bottom.

Mmmmaybe

. I thought from memory the white bit was only on one side (but probably wrong). Easiest thing to do is remove the door lining off the other door and use that as a guide on how everything goes back together - it is a mirror image excepting for the couple of extra switches.

that white thing is attached to the bottom of the window, when the window goes up... the white thing hits a bracket and stops the window from going too far up... you'll have a new one on your new window glass

ok...so now i have taken all the screws and bolts out of the inside of the door after taking the plastic frame off. Is the inner metal frame (of the door...the part right under the plastic door) meant to come off ? i am thinking it would be easier to put the glass in if i take the door off.

OK first off bro the plastic piece is on your new window and as someone else said it is a window stop. No the metal mframe does not come off you slide the window in from the top ie. where it come out of when you put the window up and down...... does that make sense????? Also DONOT put the door trim back together till you have made sure the window closes secrurly into its position. When i did mine i thought it wouldnt need to be adjusted but it did it was way too high so when i would close my door it was bending all the rubber. If you get stuck let me know i may some pics somewhere of when i did mine

Actually, the plastic bit may not be on it. I had to remove it when I took the glass out of one of my doors last weekend to get it out. It will all depend on whether the person you bought the glass of did the right thing and put it back on again before sending it

lol..um...ok..i have taken everything out of the door now...there is absolutely nothing inside the door...is that what i was meant to do ? cos before someone said to take all the screws and bolts out so i did...basically i have the motor for the power window out of the door and the metal frame thing that the window is meant to rest on, and the side metal guards that guide the window up and down. am i on the right track so far ?

You get new ones on the new window. I think you should wait till you see the window or do what dstocks said and take off the other panel to see how it all works
