ummmmmmmm.......

if the PS3 were a car with a V8

it would only be firing one cylinder instead of all 8 while trying to overtake lowndes and wincup

Yeah good analogy but im still wondering why would someone want to use linux on a ps3 and is it possible to use windows XP on it then

Cant put XP on unless you emulate it thru Linux. Which makes it unusably slow.

I've put Linux on my PS3 & its great. There's a version specifically for it called Yellowdog. Has a windows style GUI & you can watch movies, map network drives & listen to music etc, browse the web. Very handy.

I'll see if I can find my copy. Mind you, by the time that happens, you'll probably have lost interest & bought an xbox

PClinuxOS is also very good for consoles..
had my 360 running it for awhile, and, to my surprise, it was using all 3 cores!
fast as hell for $600!

The failure rate is more like 23%..which, out of the number sold, isn't all that bad IMO.
My 360 has seen the RRoD about 6 times now..
Still going strong ;)

Only 690mb~, and has the biggest list of hardware supported you have and will ever see in your life.
i mean, a PC from the 1990's will work 100% FFS.
