it should just plug straight into the PS3 and then just configure your connection settings through the options settings. (just guesing coz i don't have a ps3.).
if that doesn't work then i know that they have wi-fi, so grab yourself a router and it should pick up a signal for it. Or better yet hack into the neighbours router.

Did you plug the ethernet cable in?
My bro has his working i can ask him when he gets home but i think you just plug in the ethernet cable and configure settings.

what am i suppose to plug the ethernet cable into?
Maggsy when i plug into my computer it then opens a windows program stored on the flash drive. I then connect and disconnect the internet through that program, i obvisouly have no idea what im talking about

Maybe you can show me when you pick your goodies up in a couple of weeks

do ps3's have the abiltiy to open flash drives and view their contents? i've never actually seen the dashbord for one before so i have no idea without looking at it.
if that doesn't work then u can pick up wi-fi recievers that plug into things and act as an antenna for wireless signals. but if you don't have a modem or a router then it won't pick anything up, (unless you have neighbours that have no passwords on their routers)
p.s. did u order the goodies?

On the back of the PS3 there is a place to stick the ethernet cord into (Theres probably one on your computer too... the cord is usually blue and says cat5 on it.

but i don't think he has a modem.
without a modem to run the ethernet cable from there is no internet signal.
unless you ran an ethernet cable from your computer to the ps3, that might work for u, i tried to that with my 360 and i didn't work but it might be different coz your using a 3 modem thingy.

if your planning on putting it in the car then i'd say the only option is to get one of those usb drives that acts as a modem.
the only one i know of at the moment is the telstra next g network, because they're not designed for game consoles however you might run into some problems.
it looks like this ---->

Wont work. Go & get ADSL you tightarse
PS3 will only run on ethernet or wireless B/G. Ie ADSL into router, router into PS3.

Okay.
Heres the only possible way I can see this working.
First once you put in the USB key, a network connection should appear in 'network Connections' within the windows control panel. Right click on that, and under a tab at the top, click share connection. Then get yourself a 'crossover' cable from some computer store (shouldn't be too much) and then connect your computer to the PS3.
Set static IP's on both PS3 and your PC and then you're done.
yeah, I'm sure someone who isn't tech savvy will understand that.
