No muffler.

I just want to know if running my car with no muffler is doing any damage to it. First thought is that it isnt since the exhaust system dispenses off spent gas so apart from the f*****g loudness of it all, am I doing any harm to it?

No, you will not cause any damage at all, it may be loud and in some certain circumstance you can actually loose power but no damage will be done.

Any cop troubles maggsy? I only take it off sometimes, like today!! Nice and loud although it does feel more responsive. So where in the revband do you lose power?

how long is a piece of string? you have to figure that out bushido, all engines are different, even if they are the same model

i haven't had any cop troubles yet

and i didn't seem to lose power anywhere in the rev range, seems to be a steady increase to the entire range maybe a llittle better up top.

+1

i wasnt talking about fto's specifically i was just talking generally about engines i dont know if ftos will lose power, at what rev range, or how many kws you would lose. (but usually most engines need some form of back pressure). It depends on many things, Do you have extractors, how bigs your pipeing, do you have resonator, do have a pod filter, the list is massive. Without a dyno and a lot of time, it is imposible to say.

So without the muffler, is the exhaust system called a "straight pipe?" All ive done is disconnected the final muffler section of the exhaust. Muffler is still held in place by the supports but theres like a 2 inch gap where it's been unbolted. So all the noise now comes from just before the left rear wheel. Kind of under the passenger.

And I understand what you guys are trying to say, and without going to a dyno, it's much more responsive up top with just and intake, pod and 2.5 inch catback. But my original question was whether or not it would do any damage. Ive gotten my answer so I'm content. Thanks all! :D

No its called an exhaust pipe, unless its straight then its a straight exhaust pipe. lol

Exhaust system goes something similar to this but there are many variations

Exhaust manifold or Headers (aka extractors)
exhaust pipe
02 senor (plugs into exhaut pipe)
catylic converter (cat)
exhaust pipe
muffler
exhaust pipe
exhaust tip

And also a cat (although its not) acts like a muffler, as it does increas back pressure and changes sound of exhaust

Losing your muffler will affect your low down (very low down) power, most heavily felt in an n/a. Otherwise, you should be gaining mid to cut out. Does no damage.

LOL... maggsy, you have a 2.5" system with a highflow metal cat.... of course its going to be better...

And i thought everyone was talking about taking the exhaust off at the collector or something... lol...

Mine partially goes through the exhaust, and partially out a small pipe off the side of the turbo under the engine bay.... sh*t its loud... lol... but no cop troubles..

thats what i meant when i said it has a steady increase, but i just didn't word it right.

i mean its better through the entire rev range as opposed to being better in one part of it.

OMG i cant wait for extractors and engine to be done, getting exciting now. :D :D

Will be awesome then.. Between your new intake roaring through mivec and you full exhaust system... its going to sound mean as!

Want to hear it!!

Will it be done by the 30th cruise?

i hope so.

as soon as i get the piston rings it should be ready for to get done.
