Hi I'm new to the forum I have a friend who's FTO mad but is not really up to speed on the engineering side of things. I had a look at the turbo conversion but was wondering is there any other turbo motors that would come close to bolting on? :D

Have a look in the turbo section of the forums. You will find people who have done quite a few different things engine wise.

There are a few engines that will fit into an FTO .. but some require more work than others..

6A13TT - Galant Engine
Check the forums, a couple of guys on here have done the conversion + Turbo (big money - 25k+)

4g63 - Evo Engine - http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic121265.htm

The engine from a Mitsibishi Eclipse might fit, but i'm not sure..

Not to mention, check the for sale section - theres a 6A13 Turbo conversion FTO for sale for a very good price.

The early eclipse is a 4G63 ... Exactly the same as the Evo, bolts and everything... The VR4 is another variant that will fit ... It just has different crank size, and bolt pattern ... Internals are pretty much the same ... I think ....

Not sure about the later model Eclipse though ... There are Eclipse 4G63's which are FWD, so it would be less headache ... Just get Box, Engine, looms and you would be able to do it ... Not sure about the mounts, and mounting points... But I am sure you could find a bracket or something....

So for a 97 GPX FTO you would say a evo 4 4g63 would be around the same motor to drop in and the engine mounts ect should line up? Just using the Fwd and leaving the transfer case open at the rear with no rear drive train. Sounds like a lot of power to the front wheels! I would be guessing it would take a lot of suspention and body strenghting work to get that type of power to the ground? Has anyone attempted that type of conversion?

look them up on cardomain.com, there's definitely someone out there who's done it.

The eclipse 4G63 is based on the Evo I-III ... That is the gearbox is on the other side, so it runs the opposite way ... Not sure what year the Eclipse moved away from 4G63, but think it was the second gen that was the last....

All 4G63's are DOHC (From what I have read/seen) ...

I've done a reasonable amount of research into this dept...

anything from evo 4 onwards will fit...

As far as AWD is concerned, the older stuff would be easier... less electronic stability sh*t to deal with...

Also the RvR gearbox will fit, as will the 6a13tt... the 6a12tt engine is reversed so no go, however my mechanic (JnR) are halfway through doing a 6a12tt conversion on one of their FTOs.... some qld members may have seen it in their yard...

Basically, best one to go with would be the 6a13tt... Its been done a couple of times in australia... weight etc is almost the same... and you dont need a custom TB... Adz did his without it...

Or even better... just buys jeffs car for $24k and you've got an instant 306kw ATW.... my god its a freak....

Theres another V6 mitsi engine which has been fitted in Japan but the car is now inthe UK. When it was for sale it was a big secret about which engine was in and I cant remember now which one it was except I know it wasn't from the GTO.

I'll dig a bit and see. The car was a company show car but again I cant remember what company. I'mm doin' really wellso far, eh?

It might have been the Galant, think Jap spec Magna. In which case it would be the 6A13tt. Mid 90's model Galant's I'm pretty sure. I though the GTO motor was something else? Not a 6A?
