does anyone know anything about DIVX and how to copy movies in this format.

A mate brought round a dvd the other day that 4 movies on it (each movie was like 700kb instead of the usual 3gig or more )and im like WTF, how do you do this. I have been using DVD shrink to burn movies (making legal backups of originals i own) but recently have been havin trouble with a lot of the newer movies comin out especially from sony. But 2 of the movies that were on this dvd i had tried to burn and DVDshrink would not let me.

So how do i burn into DIVX format and what software will i need is it free etc

Thanks

DIVx looses a fair amount of quality...

Not to mention is only playable on PC....

Check out:
Anydvd
and
CloneDvd...

Those two together are a powerful combo...

You can buy dvd players that play divx etc, if you do go down that path.

My Xbox and dvd player play everything too... but for sake of compatability, DVDs are universal... and better quality...

The newer movies have never forms of encryption on the discs. Download & install DVD idle Pro. It effectively masks the encryption & the pc thinks its just an unencrypted DVD & will allow DVD shrink to do the copy ;)

Just use Nero, pretty easy.

Yup, the newer films are getting harder to copy. I use DVD43 running in the background and then go the usual DVD Shrink route.

I think stores sell movies. If you've got a PS3 go and get some blu rays.

I noticed the difference straight away. I notice large crowd scenes the best. Casino Royal, Venice Square you can see every single person moving and so clear. Also I rented Apocolypto last week, the crowd scenes again are amazing. And in the jungle, you can almost count every single leaf. The details is amazing. I'm using a 40" Sony LCD TV with HDMI leads from the PS3.
