How much would this cost to do? Would the quality be good?

no idea...wouldnt it be more profitable if you sold the carbon fibre one...and bought one in the colour you wanted ?

yeh but then it would add like 10kg or something

because CF is illegal, painting it makes it less of a 'cop magnet'

then you get the black look, but no cops lol.

haha. well I have a stock white hood and was looking into trading Nicholas for his CF one. Im all about the weight reduction but not too interested in being a cop magnet. So if I did trade with Nicholas, I would definately want to paint it. So no one knows how much this would cost? And surely paint cant add 10 kg? I Hope :?

i was actually refering to the 10kg weight gain if you did what harry said

10kg of paint would be enough for a house!

I thought about doing the same thing when nicholas approached me but no-one would take on the job of spraying Carbon Fibre, apparently it doesn't take too well to that material.

But, don't be discouraged, check with a local spraybeater/panelbeater for their advice.

Good luck, it is a very nice bonnet and i had the same fears before finally declining.

Yep, my bonnet.

I don't know anything about painting it but hopefully someone can shed light on it. You can also try looking at other forums (Supra, SkylineAU, jdmstyletuning.com etc) cos I'm sure someone else has done it before.

It's a nice bonnet, really, but I've decided I prefer the clean white bonnet. Also, I was a bit worried about being a 'cop-magnet' but (touch wood) neither I or the previous owners have had any trouble to date... it's a little bit of luck and a lot about how, when and where you drive your car.

much agreed, i love carbon fibre bonnets and have always had them on previous cars but it becomes a game of Russian Roulette as to where you drive and when and if you see a copper then what do you do.

Also, where do you park it as the crims know about carbon as well and like to try and steal or damge the bonnet, had it happen to me.

when i bought the FTO i vowed i didn't want to feel like that again and wanted to enjoy driving it and take it anywhere, anytime and not have to have two cars so i could go anywhere i wanted with no hassles. One car for late at night and shopping centres and one car for weekends and sometimes to and from work.

Lot of expense for just a bonnet so hopefully someone can shed more of a light as to whether or not it can be sprayed and the costs involved as everyone i have tried has not wanted to go near it.

because cf doesn't crumble like bonnets do in crashes, they just brake off and go back into the drivers windscreen...

I just dont get the whole CF hood thing... it looks like sh*t if its not painted (the whole JDM Spoon S14 look doesnt do it for me) and if your worried about weight savings, try taking the 20kg of Subs outta the boot first - or put down that Big Mac you're eating & go have an apple.

Hmm I've always liked the JDM look and im running out of practical ways to lop off weight. Thinking about taking out the head unit, I dont have any subs and yeh, can't really think of anything else to do. Im going to leave the air con.

Still would like to know how much CF is to paint. Ill go make some calls now

It should be fine to paint, but you should not bake it in a booth ... So that means no 2pak paint ... It would have to be acrylic ...
