hey guys i've tried to do the vin check thing for the rolling shell i got on the net, but after hrs of BS, i couldnt come up with anything.

Does anyone know exactly how to check it? i've tried on quite a few sites they either return no/useless info or ask for money :(

someone told me that used car dealerships have access to a la-di-the database with all the vin number info on it, is this so? if so does anyone work in an used care dealership? lol

Try dstocks one, see this thread for more info:

I tried to search it myself but the site didn't want to work for me after I entered it wrong the first time.

yea...you are better off doing a revs check...its worth the $30 or so dollars, not even that, its piece of mind, and you have written proof about the info of the car.

REVS check is only part of it - to find out if it's a prior writeoff or if finance is still attached to the car. But it doesn't cover the import/compliance area.

Ideally, you SHOULD have copies of the original import approval that was issued by DOTARS. You can contact their vehicle imports section and they should be able to give you details about the compliance status of the car - 1800 815 272. FTOs which have been imported should also have a compliance sticker somewhere on the car.

Otherwise, current (or expired within the last three months) rego papers from interstate are generally okay to satisfy the authorities these days.
