Tiptonic Transmission Stuck in Gear 3

HI ,My fto transmission was broken 2 month ago. Then I bring it go a mechanic to get fixed. It was perfect when I was pick up the car. But the second day, The gear stuck in gear 3 when I was driving. The the flash light in Neutral start blinking. I can still drive it but only on gear 3.

I try to use the tiptronic, it can lower the gear to 2 , then u can only change the gear between 2 and 3.

I can turn the engine off, the transmission back to normal for a period of time. Sometimes the problem keep happening all the time. Sometimes the transmission is really smooth, problem does not happen at all.

Someone come cross with this before. The mechanic said it's the solnoid problem. Replace the solnoid is the only way to fix it. But it is really hard to find the parts here.

Please help... Thanks

If you get me a part number, I can source it in Japan. Might be a reasonable price and then might not. Failing that, ive got a second hand tip box if you end up needing one.

Usually limp mode won't let you change into second...

Firstly, check for Error codes in the ECU.
You can check the error codes by: >>>Doing this<<<
If there are error codes, the "N" light will flash to give you a code.

There's a run through on the problems I had and what caused them >>>HERE<<<

Save's you a bit of searching ;)

Could be as simple as the mechanic using the wrong trans fluid (hopefully).

Hope that helps...

The Transmission Fluid is the correct one. I brought it From Repco as instructed by the formum..Standard T3 transmission fluid.

Dear TCGPX

Would you mind give me the contact detail of the mechanic fixed your fto.

I am desperate about the problem. It happened everytime I drive it. Especially when the car is cold.

Thanks

Sorry my bad i thought that the flashing of the n on the dash as he stated meant that it was in limp mode my apologies

Got Someone have exactly same problem in UK. Here are the details

My 1995 fto gpx has decided that it wants to stay in 3rd gear.

I started the car and the tiptronic gearbox switched straight to 3rd gear with the neutral light flashing.

If i put it into drive the box clonks in and then drives fine. Put it in reverse and it does the same.

Ive tried a few tricks offered by others like starting it in neutral etc but nothin has worked.

after a financial debate with myself ive had to suck it up and take my car to mitsubishi to find out the problem. £30+vat just for the computer test and results. worth doing!!

Results were not a simple as I hoped.
The computer test came out with two possible faults.

1- DCC (damper clutch control) solonoid sensor
2- Autobox ECU.

Now mitsubishi could not state which one it was.

Option 1 (DCC) is the cheaper option to go for, its a £33.39+vat sensor that in total is going to cost £260 inc vat to change. £60 per hour labour, 3hour booking time. (heart skipped a beat!!)

If this doesnt work then im looking at option 2 (auto box ecu) at £343 +labour +vat, so you can imagine what im keeping my fingers crossed for. no clue on total yet, probably around £600 all in. ( dont forget the £260 on top of that!!)

Ive found 2nd hand ECUs at around £100 but is this worth the risk. If its new its under warranty.

If the worst case comes up and anyone knows where i can get a cheaper new autobox ecu then feel free to share this information.

Ahh, well you may want to double check those prices with Mitsubishi Aus. The poms dont get slugged with grey markup prices, we do.

Still a good point see if someone has those parts that they may lend you, maybe dstocks.
failing that, ring a wreker get the parts replace them and see which one it was then return which ever one you dont need :D We used to do that in NZ, not sure if wrekers here will let you do it, so just ask them what there refund policy is most should be sweet especially if you just be honest with them

Thanks very much brother

I ringed around, none of the wreckers have the MIVEC parts..

Seems Have to get from the dealer... they said they have to order them from Japan.

If the faults you are having are related to this thread: http://www.ftoaustralia.com/modules.php ... 645#147645 then the problem might be the crank angle sensor.

I think I can get either a 2nd hand ECU or a new one at a better price than youve quoted. They are easy to swap too. Let me know if you want me to look into it for you.
