This is not something I ever wanted to do, but seeing as how I had a car accident this morning (no injuries, except to my poor baby

) I will get to road test my insurance company's claim procedure.
I am with Just Car Insurance, we'll see how it goes.

Oh dear i hope its not too bad? Dont know what just cars are like but bear in mind that despite what your car insurance policy says you by law have the right to choose your own repairer. At least you werent hurt james, hope you can make it to the next cruze.

you gotta remember to make sure there are no cars in front of you before draging someone off at the lights!
I guess I would have won this drag
I'll be interested in the outcome as I'm with justcar as well.
Big ouch!

Hey as long as u alrite, thats the main thing. The car doesn't seem to be that bad. But if that impact is around 5km, then FTO must have a very fragile body.
I've been in few accident before, but none had damage like this & they were more then 5kmph.

sucks about the car mate,
when you are done with your insurance claim would you be prepared to document the whole process so we can put it up on the site. a lot of our members are insured through Just Cars (myself included) so the outcome and a permanent record on this site would be invaluable.
thanks mate and good luck

Sure.
I rang them last night.
The person who took my call was very friendly and sympathetic, asked me all the details, asked if I had been drinking or was under the influence of drugs at the time... twice!
They are getting the quotes done for me, I have to drop the car in tomorrow to get it inspected, they are taking care of the quotes, they will even drop me off at work when I go there tomorrow.
Because the accident was my fault, I lose a rating, and my premiums will go up next year

Airbornespanner has an insurance broker who you might like to get to know really well. his daughter insured a GTS-T for 1200 or 1300 and she's pretty young (i.e. under 25). not sure what her rating is like but he obviously got her a great deal.
i'm going to meet this broker soon and discuss what sort of arrangement he would like to come up with for club members.

for those who are concerned, sometimes a low premium could mean higher excess in the event of a claim and lower premiums with low excess could also mean less service/cover so check the fineprints and be absolutely certain what you are getting for your money by shopping around...
I've said this many times before in other insurance related threads but your premiums will depend on your age, driving history, type of car, risk assessment based on location, modifications if any, security device, so on and so forth...

There's a Rating 1 Protection option with Just Car when you renew every year. It costs about $35 a year and protects your rating 1 for one "At Fault" claim per year. This can only be taken out if you have Rating 1 and not below.

Aha but you need to be at rating 1 to begin with and have held that rating for 3 years minimum.

Hate to shatter that illusion Mikey, but I'm with Just Cars and I have NEVER been booked for speeding (doesnt mean I never have - just havent been caught), or any other traffic infringement in more than 10 years. I'm over 35 and I still have a $1000 excess and it cost me - off the top of my head) $1200 to insure my car. Car is alarmed, garaged every night and I have only allowed for the wheels as mods. I'll be interested to see what Mikey comes up with from the Broker, cos I sure as hell aint happy with my insurance costs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i was just doing some test claims with justcar and well i asked about a 95 FTO GPX STOCK manual... i'll be rating 5 for my next renewal... and they quoted me 3100$ ? seems a bit steap.. (im 18 now, but 19 by the time i make my claim).. seems a bit harsh :S
what are some of the better ones to go through? (i KNOW there is an insurance thread somewhere, it's just late, and im lazy tonight

)
