Vacuum problems with Climate Control .... HELP !!!!!

Ok, well considering we have had some pretty hot days as of late, and for all times for the climate control to go bung, it chose it now....

OK here is what happened...

Was cruising around the other day with it on for a few hours... All was well. Drove the car to work today, but didn't use it. When leaving work, I decided to put her on, and had a mate in the car.

Turned the car on (A/C was off), then turned on the A/C. It was set on 17 and the flow was set to feet and face. It was pretty loud when it came on (full fan), and there was a bit of air coming through to the feet (my mate had thongs on so could feel it) ... There was then like a woooshing sound, and there was no air then coming through at the feet or the two vents in the centre.

Now, the A/C still works, but it only comes out of the vents on the drivers side (near the window) and the passenger side in the same spot. When you try to switch it to feet, there is no change, and you don't hear the vacuum swithing to the different mode. Then when you put it on to the frond windscreen, it does not change where the air comes out ... No matter what setting you put it on, the air only comes out of the two vents ... :?:

I may be imagining this, but it also sounds louder .... :?: Maybe because the air is not escaping to different outlets ????

We had a little look at it (but didn't pull anything apart) and don't know what the go is. We took out the glove box, and you can see the switch move when you select re-circulated air, and fresh air, so that is OK ... The temp seems to work, as when we put it up to 30 we could feel it heating up ... What the hell is the problem ?????

I should add ... Checked all fuses and they are fine....

Disconnected the batt, and let the car sit for a couple of mins, and then started her again ... Still the same problem ... I am stumped, as we cant seem to see if any of the duct has come off a connector... and if it did, would this cause it not to change the direction of airflow, or what vent the air comes out of ... ????

Yeah, but it is not just the centre vents, it is the vents all along the top of the dash also, and also the ones at your feet...

That is a lot of vents to just block all at once...

dont quote me on this but where the air blows out of isnt the feet and centre console ducts connected like goes from 1 and splits kidna like a "Y" shape?that could be your problem i always thought that you have3 pipes one to the passanger one to teh drivers side and one that is lieka Y.

Not sure ... Will have to pull it all apart on the weekend I guess. ... Grrrrrr .....

If there is a Y connection there, why would the vents at the base of the windscreen not have any air coming out though ... Could it be that if 1 part of the vacuum is not working that the whole thing packs it in ????

Looks a lot more complex then I thought .... :(

But looking at how the plastic tunnel lines up for the center vents, I don't see how anything could come loose there to cause a problem... So still leaves me asking what the hell happened to it ??/

Maybe I should get a new climate control bit ans see if that is what is causing it ....

Anyone got one .... So I can try and pick it up Friday night ....

Ive got one

you could always take it to a workshop somewhere and tell them to tell you whats wrong with it (shouldnt take long for someone who knows what they are doing, and shouldnt charge you either) ...

Mostly they will just guess... They will do the simple things that I have done, then try to decide what the problem is...

To find out the problem, they would probably have to DMM the master unit ... So the only way to do that is to take the unit out and bench test... So they wont do that for free... Then they would look at all the piping and vents if the master unit is ok ...

So will have to see... Have been chatting with dstocks, so we will see if he has the part for me to pick up tonight... If not next weekend or so I will be done at his place....

could it simply be cc unit f**king up? I have some spare if you want to try a new one. But didnt think there was a setting for sides only...
