Starting Engine splutter?

Just wondered how everyone's engine sounds when you start her up.

Most of the time mine starts perfect, with a nice growl of revs. Other times, usually when warm, more of a whimpy splutter. Always starts first time, and straight away, just thinking that it's a bit odd... maybe pointing to something in the fuel system?

yea i get that sometimes too...although sometimes in different circumstances...like the other day before driving for long...i just floored the car down the street...and the exhaust started to sound different ( i have just a sports muffler) ...like it sounded more like a canon..if that makes sense...but at the same time it was shaking...the next morning it sounded the same..but after heating up the motor the sound changed back to its normal growl...( it aiint too loud anyway)...

With the splutter starting if you can smell fuel as well I used to get this. Mechanic got me onto a good injector cleaner told me some cars can be susceptible to this if the injectors get some gunk in them it floods the engine on start up, because the fuel that would normally drain out of the injectors to maintain the pressure in the rail (say after a hard drive) can't. Thus the funky start, (that was a crap explanation sorry, but hope you ge tthe idea of what my mechanic was trying to tell me) I put a bottle of injector cleaner in once a month now and have not had any issues.

On cold starts though I have found it is hesitant to rev but I think this may be an oxygen sensor issue or maybe I just need to change the fuel filter, still to look into it

I have the same thing after driving to and from work 50ks each way aprox if I dont open the bonet to let the heat out of the bay it strugels to start the next time.
its like the fuel evaperates out of the lines abit :? will be getting it looked at in the new year.

Could probably do with a propper injector clean. Anyone any idea how much that'd cost to whip em out and give them a once over at a garage?

Yeah, did wonder whether it could be the slug of air that's been heated up by the hot engine bay on startup. But it should be pretty common if so?

hmmmm, maybe time to get some more of that Mitsubishi Fuel Cleaner. Don't like using fuel additives, but if it works...

Stepper motor problem for sure. Steppers are faulty when hot sometimes.

I think the O2 sensor is on open circuit at cold start until it gets to temp....unless its gets a bit farked up and doesnt and tries to do some adjustment which would be *~delightful!~*.
