I'd like to chrome some parts on my car, but to chrome them properly can cost a fortune. Alternatively, I have looked at chrome paints, but so far none of the ones I have tried actually look like chrome, rather it ends up looking like a dull silver.

Has anyone chromed various bit and pieces, and if so what did you use?

Does anyone know of a chrome paint that actually ends up looking like chrome?

Just to let you know that they don't have silver chrome which is what most people want like my self.

And don't expect any after services like answering any queries you may have after buying the thing cause you ain't getting any!!!

They are very bad with after services so make sure you ask them every thing you need to know before you buy it.

I have seen that quite a few FTO's have extremely polished internals for their engine bay..


Now to look at my engine, it doesnt look like it would be possible to make the metal shine????? How is this done? is it machined? chromed?

anyone have any idea who I would contact to do a job like this and the cost?

secondly can plastic be chromed or only metal? ( i know aluminium cannot)

aluminium can be polished, you can get it done professionally or you can buy a grinder and special polishing wheel and polish and do it your self.

Also try competion coatings they do ceramic coatings and also do some very nice coloured translucent coatings, They have a coating known as ceramachrome which looks like chrome but reduces heat transfer very good fot the inlet manifold or exhaust manifolds and dump pipe, so it looks good and also improves your performance slightly. It is not cheap though. Aluminium can be cermachromed

There is also powder coating, some of the new colours available for powder coating are very nice. I have seen some golds and silvers and ther is some new metalic colours that havent recently become available where i get mine done. There is a blue that looks almost like the blue anodising

something like the engine can actually be done though? woudl they need to take the engine out for such a job, or just polish the visible areas???

what metal is the engine area made of?

yes, they can polish the parts of the engine.

Polishing of metal parts is more common for wheels (such as what Scracy had done), so if you ring a wheel place and ask for the name of someone who does metal polishing, they should be able to help you.

i imagine the labour here must be huge......in terms of taking apart the engine etc....

yes same type of coating differant company.

The one i am talking about you find a add in zoom for it usually.

There is many differnt type of HPC coatings some for internal parts some for external parts depeneds what you are getting coated as to the cost. some for heat transfer some for fiction some for looks

As far as removing it some parts like inlet manifold you could do yourself but pistons and heads would need to be done by a mechanic

Ruchi, have you tried the spray cans from like Spotlight, Lincraft? Or large arts & craft shops? They have chome paint there, the cans are like $10!

Sorta on topic, what is the best way to clean up your intake manifold, as i'm going to be taking mine out soon... Mine isn't very shiny...

Forgive my ignorance but what is the device just past the air filter, engine being a mivec one I find it weird. What am I missing?

I have one of those on my GR. It is a MAS sensor for the air filter. I didnt think they put those on the MIVEC engines.

It's the air flow meter, it doesn't do anything... it's because that car is an GX with a MIVEC transplant... (in the FS sections by mihn)...

So anyone know how to clean up the manifold? would brasso work?
