Turn it upside down in that spot & try again...

there is a hook welded to the inside of the boot sitting to the left of the spare tyre.
sit your jak next to this hook and begin unwinding it.
the groove in the jak will slot into the hook and tighten firmly into place.
hope that helps

But without the support the rear tyre provides, your boot board warps....... I left the tyre out of one of the wrecks I had for a couple of months and the board ended up looking like a banana. mind you, I guess I had a few things sitting on top of it.

Tis ok... everyone's alowed a few stupid questions... I know I've used up mine and more over the years!
Housemate was about to phone the AA the other day cos her toyota was in the driveway with a flat. I said I could do it for her, to which she looked stunned - she didn't even know there was a spare tyre under the boot carpet

I cant fit the bloody space saver over my front brakes, so if I get a front flat, I gotta jack up the front, chock it with bricks, then jack the rear, pull the rear tyre off put it on the front, then put the space saver on the rear
