I had an old mechanic mate in the army who had one of those big dirty sahara landcruisers from the early 80's that could run on used fish and chip frying oil! Stank like hell and had to change the filter every 2 fills, but for 12c a litre, who'd complain?
Oh, and he used 2 44gallon drums as his auxilary tanks, and could get to townsville from albury without refilling. i never got to see that for myself though.
