If you compared two same cars same mileage etc etc, it works out pretty close to the same as the import duty etc is the same no matter where you import from. So if you are gonna import and find a car cheaper in nz than jap then grab it and vice versa.
But there is a way larger selection from japan

I dont know if you're allowed to import from NZ, i wanted a Pajero Evolution from there, and the import yards said it cant be done. Maybe it was just that car...

thanks for the help. i guess its gonna be the same. i got a quote from a exporter(japan) and he said about 4k for just the car but he cant say how much the rest will be... which is stupid. may as well get one here.

Its probably just the car but i know they were talkin about creating import laws like If you want to import from nz u have to have owned the car for at least 1yr dont know if that was introduced or not though. But seriously you might aswell just import from jap

there are various compliance issues in australia relating to importing a vehicle from ANY country,
to name a few,
a dimmer switch for your cluster lights,
anchors for a child restraint in the back
the list is numerous acctually.
so yes,
you wanna import?
go jappa's
id just buy 3rd hand in aus

going 3rd hand seems to be the easiest and safest bet.
