so how much should it cost ? is it a good alternative to buying new rims (dont have much money to spend) ? does the colour wash off ? what type of paint is required ?

You can get them stained or tinted I think, but a better option is getting them powdercoated, this will put up with a lot more abuse.

I have a mate that will powdercoat rims for $50-80 in NSW ...
You just have to sand blast them and prep them .... That is the catch... I am thinking of doing mine black with a polished lip ....

Cost ? Under $100 easy
Clean, sand, primer, paint, topcoat. Several layers of paint and topcoat...even primer if you're fussy. Took me 7 hours.

Is that mates rates or rough going rate? what is required to 'prep' them after sandblasting?

I can get you the same price...
I don't think you need to do any prep after sandblasting... Cause the rim is back to metal, the powder coat should stick to it....

that would be great, i'm just waiting for an appropriate time to get a spare set onto my car and take the good ones off, should be next weekend. Any panelbeater would do the sandblasting yeah?

Yeah, they should ... Let me know when you are ready, and I will ask the guy if there is anything special that needs to be done before they are prepped...

ignore every answer above and below this post!
it is okay to paint certain rims for the fto,
deep dish can look good depending on the colour of the car and the rims,
ie a white car with black rims and black car with gold rims...
painting stock rims looks *~delightful!~*
buy new rims,

But is that powder coated or just painted ???

Spoke with the guy today and that's powder coated with a double coat for extra protection and gloss.
If anyone is interested, let me know and i can point you in the right direction.
he does a great job and the price is very cheap.

does he repair slight kerb rashes aswell?
even on the spokes... you have seen my wheels...

Nah, he wouldn't do that but if you sand the damage back he can spray it so it looks new again.
That's what i did with the set he sprayed for me, just smoothed it out and you couldn't even tell.
I could ask him to sand it down for you but it will cost more that way.
Hey, when you going to get theat other part to me that i was going to polish....LOL.
