power steering & whirring

A while ago I posted that my engine was making a newly found whirring noise at idle that was rising with the revs of the engine....

in the last week, my car is now making a damn awful noise particurarly when turning left, i thought it was a crack inner guard that the tyre was hitting but found its doing it when the car is stationary, and starting to do it when turning left and right......

the PS hose was replaced recently, what might I be up for now? do u think the initial whirring noise might be related?

Check the belt and the pully, either one or both might need to be replaced.

Clearly not high enough by the looks of things. It was after midnight, its hard to type after one has turned into a pumpkin.

Hi,

Power steering fluid, is top left corner of engine bay yes? (looking into engine). If thats the case, there was plenty of fluid. Sorry I cannot open the FTO manuals for some reason on my pc.

Its mainly making the noise when turning left, however wasnt as bad today as it was yesterday.

Top left corner is the brake fluid container, the black container below it is the power steering.

Open it up and see the level.

i am an idiot..... it even says power steering on it - thanks for that.

Opened it up, fluid visible but very low, not reading on dipstick.
What fluid can I use here, and what damage am I causing by driving the car with it not filled?

IF you don't know what fluid is in there atm then go have it flushed. The p/s fluid is the same as the transmission fluid (if you have a Tip, it's Dexron III .. need confirmation). If you have a manual then I'm not sure, should be the same I think.

mine's manual - from my knowledge never been replaced. will probably call mechanic tomorrow and find out from them. Thanks.

my last service, I had the high pressure power steering hose replaced. They also put in 2 litres of power steering fluid. this was in august!!!
ill call them first thing - as maybe the new hose is leaking,
