My 1995 manual FTO wont start, I can clutch start it, but when i turn the key there is no clicking or cranking sound from the engine, the lights work fine, I got a jump start (well tried) and it still would not start even though the battery level showed 14 volts!

why wont my car start?

starter motor. Give it a few knocks with a mullet/hammer and try start it, it should start.

Starter motor is screwed. The fact that you can clutch start it rules out pretty much everything except battery and starter motor. If your battery is fine then it has to be starter.

yeap same prob happened with me. I thought it was my battery, got it checked and fully recharged, andnopes that wasn't it. Got the starter motor taken out - it was 80% burnt. 2 days and $150 dollars later, all back to normal!

yep

try hitting it with hammer. (thats not a joke) sometimes the splines dont align properly. Usually clicking indicates battery problem can u still clutch start?????

Nope didn't work, but tightening the Starter positive certainly seemed to help, I think my battery also a little flat when i turn thye key on about 11 volts shows, NOT 12

HELP!

Instead of starting a new thread i decided to hijack this one

Anyway my car has decided not to start instead it makes a constant ticking noise and doesnt even try to start my volt meter shows around 9 volts, is the problem a starter motor? if so where can I get a cheap one from?

Cheers
