Just curious, how hot does it get under the bonnet during driving?

Like the Temp?
or on the gauge?

I watch mine pretty closely with summer basically here and I've never seen it get over the halfway mark. Thats with heavy driving and aircon on max.

I think anytime she gets over halfway is when its too hot isn't that right?

i done some simple temp checks and was gettin readings of aroun 56 degrees but dont know if that was accurate

I thought it gets over 100 degrees lol

56 is a lot less then my estimation

Well the engine certainly does but im not 100% sure about ambient temp of engine bay. I am getting a new thermometer soon so i will let you know outcome if someone else hasnt already replied. I do remeber reading a post about a member who was temp crazy. he was atching all sorts of temps in his engine bay, but cant remember who when, where or why?. Maybe if you use the search feature and type in temp or thermometer or something.

I remember reading a forum a little while back on CAI's and someone was taking heaps of temp measurements under the hood. Have a look through the CAI forums. I'l also try and find it.

Shortly more than that??? I reckon even if your engine is off it will hit over 56 degrees on a 30+ degree day.

what ever the temp its hot enough to highlight why you guy with open pod intakes are just wasting your time.

The reason i was asking was because I have a sheet of perpex, the guy said that it'll warp at about 100c so if the engine doesn't get that hot then I can use it to build a box and then use windscreen shield to line the inside of the box.

So wats the point in using perspex when you just going to be covering it windshield stuff. Use a sheet of alloy or something. cheaper and way easier to mould and also dont need to worry about melting. Even if it doesnt get that hot inside an engine bay if it touches the engine it will surely melt. Just a thought!

EDIT: Dont laugh made in about 2 hrs. needed it because car was running so sh&T with just the pod on it.

The perpex is more for supporting the screen shield. I could use alum sheeting but that would conduct too much heat, the screen shield would help but hey, less heat the better.

Yeah but if its going to melt thats a problem you dont want a fire in there man. Ive covered the allow with house insulation on the outside and windsreen sheild on the inside. but when i do all the front dam piping im going to check temps and use exhaust wrap or something. but anything is betta than nothing at all cause of the fan location

Sitting at lights I've seen engine bay temps go to 70 odd degrees on hot days. (Temp sensor cuts out after that so not sure how much higher...)

I used perspex for the top of my CAI and the bottom part is a plastic storage box... LOL.



Had it on there for a while now with no warping/melting to be seen. It'll warp way before it melts, so you'll get some warning if you check it regularly.

Remember, if your running a CAI, there is also COLD air flowing through the box which will cool the plastic from the inside.

In my experience, you won't have a problem at all... And the clear perspex lets ya show off your pod filter a bit more too
