Hey all,

I'm 18 looking at buying an FTO as my second car. I'm only new to the website and don't know much about cars and the lingo regarding them.

Firstly in the GPX model people are talking about 'Mimec' (I think that's what everyone is calling it). What is it?

Secondly I've been reading about installing turbo. People reckon it's better to install it in the GP over the GPX. Why is this? Besides a boost in power what will turbo do to my car? Will it slowly destroy my engine?

Thanks,
Brendon

just a quick correction its MIVEC :P

Have a look around at the threads champ you will find lots of information.

Best person to speak to about turbo conversions = Sam he has recently upgraded from GPX engine to a GR engine (gr power mwahah) anyways he will glady be able to help out if you dont find what your looking for on here (which you will be able to)

Cheers
Sammi :)

As sammi said, Its MIVEC... Very similair idea to VTEC YO!!!!!...

And as far as turbo's... dont... Unless you have $15k (mine is at $23k so far)...

Get a GPX and do the usuals... exhaust, intake, suspension... and she'll be reliable and haul arse round the corners...

a lot cheaper and heaps more fun...

And its a GR (Non-MIVEC) not a GPX

Theres also a GPvR which is a lighter version of the GPX... with suspension upgrades etc... sort of a track edition..

Obviously dearer though...

Good luck with your search.

P.S. Where you located mate?

First of all if you dont know a great deal about cars don't even consider turbo, especially on a mivec (gpx or version R) as they run high compression engines so a lot of work is involved. In my opinion the late model version R's are a steal at current prices but make sure you can insure it first.
Also I would recommend looking at the members cars for sale on here or finding a reputable dealer and importing it yourself. Be careful shopping at the import yards in Aus as the cars arn't always the best quality (trust me I've been stung, evil bastards  ). But FTO's are definately a great choice, probably one of the best looking cars you can buy for under 20k and they go hard too.
