Always pays to get it checked... Look through the for sale section here... There are a fair few FTO's going at good prices...

a lot of FTOs are starting to get higher KMs on them, aslong as they have been looked after they are fine. No harm in getting it checked over though

Looking at the rest of the pics on carsales it appears a nice neat car - but appearances can be deceptive.

As Robsta said - a lot of our "older" FTO's are starting to get higher KM's - but if its been serviced regularly and most importantly had the MAJOR service done at 100K -

Go drive a few of them before you buy - to get a feel if they are "tired"

Also - dont know how old you are - but check out insurance as it can be expensive if under 25 (there's another topic on insurance somewhere)

Keep an eye on the VIC section, there are often get togethers where you can get a good look at other FTO's as well

Good luck and welcome

Cheers

Ouch ... I think age is going to kill you ... Try to find an insurance broker.. I had a mate who got an FTO when he was 18 ... 5k insurance... That was a while ago and there are more places to insure young drivers now, but it is prolly going to cost a bit....

My first car was a Nissan-Datsun Pulsar .... I think it was an 84 ... What a beast it was... Loved that car ... lol ... Small hatches are great to learn on IMO ...

Just don't drive it like you stole it.

If you're careful, you should be fine... if you're going to be reckless... well you don't deserve to have full comp' anyway ;)

Still... accidents... happen. 8O Just drive like a granny for a few years... hehe

i have 162,000 currently on mine and I still take it to the track/motorkhana every month (and even have the harmonic balancer removed) :) just gotta make sure you do oil + filter changes before the event or every 2 events so the engine wears as little as possible... etc. 10/40 nulon still makes the car run like a dream....

i dont think you need thicker oil just because its older... maybe if it was 250,000 you might.

All my license point losses happened to me on my GSXR when I wasn't even meaning to speed... murphies bloody law.

Am yet to lose it though ... and I'm loving the tiptronic box in my GPX... engine breaking down hills in an auto is rocking. So easy to speed down past speed traps with Auto's that roll like they're in neutral.

Big thumbs up for tip... manuals better but ... beggars can't be choosers. Not a man of infinite money unfortunately, otherwise my car'd probably be manual already :D

welcome to the club dude,
here's something i wrote for a member ages ago -
RACV testers don't know jack about imports...
try these guys - http://www.stateroads.com.au/

a little more expensive than an RACV test,
but worth it for the peice of mind

i can't remember the name of the guy i had,
but you should ask for someone that has experience at testing FTO's
if you're unsure and would like a 2nd opinion on anything,
post a topic asking for help in the vic section,
and either me or one of the other vic members can take a look at it

Its funny after 6 years of owning an FTO I did not know the roof has a groove in it without a sunroof hehe.

Make sure the timing belt has been changed otherwise I would not touch it.
