Crashed fto, Help please!

My Fto had recently experienced a crash  And ya, I was behind the wheel.... seeing as I'm asking for help I shall atleast tell ya how it came to be with this highly detailed recount. Angry bitching mother(distraction) + roundabout = crash.

Even though my mother was the massive pink elephant that I shouldn't have paid attention too, I still managed to ram up the backside of a car who suddenly braked. But yeah, no excuse is fit enough to overshadow my lack of attention spent towards the road :(

The body Kit itself, to say the least is devastated. and the right headlight has been cracked as well as the hood being pushed back and bent.

After the Crash, the coolant fluid has been leaking heavily.

Any advice on the full extent of the damage? as well as any recommendations on what I should do as well as tips.

Please and thank you, any help would be great. sorry for the inconvenience

Edit: I live in NSW, Sydney, Northwest Hills district.

u seem capible of uploading your pics lol

dude... tell me u r insured.... :?

if u r not.... by the looks of things this is probably about the dmg that jason (ethix) did from what i can gather from talking to him. and it was quoted about 5 or 6 grand of the top of my head. (he drove into the ass of a beemer at 60)

with that said... i think the body kit is repairable... if u do it urself, otherwise it might be cheaper to get a new one (cos of labour costs)

btw it might help if u tell us where u live, at least that way ppl can point you to some decent work shops in your area hopefully.

so what have learnt from this??
that's right: u shouldnt have a pink elephant for a mother lol

It's not like I had a choice in the matter :P
Anyways, I live in Baulkam Hills shire NSW (hills district)

I was thinking that I could get the hood panel beaten and replace the bodykit myself. But I don't know where i can obtain headlights, My knowledge for this kind of stuff is very limited.

O and no, No comp insurance 8O

there's a sale on ebay for a full set of stock fto body kit on ebay that ended last night (i doubt he sold it since it was already relisted at least once), it's maroon i think... and $200 for the whole lot. if u dont might driving around for a while with an off colour stock front bar then this would be a cheap fix for that
if u r interested i can dig up the link for you and maybe u can just contact the seller.

the hood is not what i'd be worried about (though i'm not sure if it can be/worth it to be panel beated out... we live in a disposable world... in case u havent noticed lol), i'd be worried about dmg to the chassis, cos if the chasis is twisted or warped even a little bit, it could mean write off... :(

and as for the lights? they r not.... rare as such, but they r expensive. if u r desperate for one u can easily go to mitsubish for it, but they will want your first born for it lol
so maybe post up a thing in the WTB section for the headlight, and search on the parts for sale section for it and see what your luck's like.

yeah i rekon there would be a cheap fix. for this problem
get stock bumpers.. from this forum.. probably get a bumper ( a plastic one) not crappy fiberglass like the one u have on. preey cheap..
maybe 100 -- 200 for a stock 2nd hand bumper
and maybe soon u might be able to get a stock bonet.. theres a group buy goin on of fiberglass ones so idont see why they would need their originals. the rest is all easy repairables like guard. and few backings been bent, i rekon if u buy the parts your self, 2nd hand bonet, and bumper, could getawya for fixin your car under 500$
did your airbags go off?

Umm look at pick 4, It shows the full extent of damage to what I think is the part of the chassis (behind the headlight). Please correct me if I'm wrong, but will this cause any problems that could lead to it being written off? seems to minor, but I'm incrredibly paranoid :?

I'm more cocerned about the leaking coolant, any advice? I've left the cover on the fto since the accident, I can't bare to look at it like this :(

Thanks :P that's rather encouraging and relieving, but I'm sure it's a lot more problematic then those words suggest. But none the less! I shall create a new thread, ty o and no, there ain't any airbags.

it shouldnt be a problem, just take a tea towel and hammer (ball point if u have it, less dints) to it to straighten it back out ;)
it looks like u hit pretty straight and probably wasnt all that fast, so unless u r really really unlucky she'll be right mate.

although i can put money on it: u r going to have the same problem i had, which is the panels not lining up properly... but unless u do work on your car it shouldnt be a problem... at least not to you, it'll be the workshop's problem lol

edit:
btw.... do u want to sel/givel me that headlight?

o ok, I'm going for a qoute on sunday, hopefully won't be too expensive. ans if i do buy 2nd stock, should decrease the price drastically :P

what can you do with a smashed headlight?

use it as template for making prototypes of different headlights ;)

thinking about making the headlights so they extend forward a bit (talking about the solid black plastic bit) and also trying to build indicators into it

i think the best place for head lights would be yahoo japan, as i always see a few set for auction. but yeah they are not cheap unless u know someone in japan that can place bid for u. otherwise i would say around $450 for a pair. :(

Erm... judging by this pic, i'd say a budget home fix it job aint gonna cut it...

Image

FTO's aren't exactly renound for the structural integrity, they're made of tin foil like most other Jap cars of the era.

Note the rather large kink in the radiator hose? That tells me the whole front cross bar has gone back at least 2 inches. Then have a look at the kink in the bracket around the back of the headlight...

The critical part up front is the lower crossmember that goes from the front of the chassis to the underside of the firewall. Its the part that has the lower engine mounts on it - if its been hit & the motor has been shunted, be prepared to spend a few bucks.

If not, then you might be okay. I'd be pulling the quarters & bonnet off, then remove anything from the front bar area - such as horns, tranny cooling line, air con lines, radiator, headlights... the works, then I'd head to a panel beater for an opinion.

wow thanks, really was insightful. I spent a good while inspecting the bottom, though I will upload pics later on, it seems rather untouched. Probably also furthered by how the bottom of the front bodykit remained intact.

It seems that impact drove in a upwards angle, mainly putting the force on the upper body :) except for the random puncture of the radiator which I guess was subjected to the other cars tollbar.

EDIT: the accident took place on a hill, in which I was on higher ground, probably didnt make to much of a difference, but maybe of one that spared me from further damage.

yeah sure, though you're going to have to wait till I get replacements. But when my car is back on the road I'll pm you the details.
