Hey guys, browsed over the last half hour thru some posts about car alarms etc but nothing really direct in answering my query.

Im looking to get an alarm put in, something i should have done a while ago. Just looking for something which is reliable i guess and also protects against things such as window smashing and forced entry ya know

Any suggestions on brands or type of alarms people used / have and an approximate price im looking at to buy & install.

Ive done some shop research and found alarms ranging from 200 or so - 899 i think it was.

OH note: i have an imboliser obvisouly which is push button --can i intergrate the one button to my central locking / imbob & the alarm (once installed) ???

Basically if anyone walks too close to the car or looks in the windows, it give two loud warning chirps... just enough to make people look at the car... and anyone near it quite nervous...

If it senses a shock or anything it goes absolutely mental...

completely black wiring so it is a prick to hack... has the ability to engine start (but i dont have this installed yet)...

theres also a button to turn off the microwave sensors... for if its raining... (rain on window = alarm going mental)... though the alarm is still on even if the microwave part is off....

You can set the radius etc... takes a while to "tune" the unit to the right area...

never faulted me... and stops things like getting keyed or dinted...

very loud and very affective...

And of course it works in conjuction with my central locking... think i paid under $400 for it all... including the guy to come do it at my house....

Shop around and get a good price...

highly reccomend microwave sensors...

And as for me reccomending mine... well its really only the microwave sensors... only like $80 and make such a difference... feel a lot more comfortable leaving the car now..

Just for giggles, I presume. Would be pretty cool, just as long as you don't mind leaving your car in neutral all the time (and I can't, my handbake doesn't hold )

The microwave sensors seem like a good idea in theory, but what about when you park your car in a parking lot, like at the shops, and people always walk between the cars to get to the shops and whatever... it'd drive anyone nearby crazy?

I used to park my car out the front of my old work... right in front of the doors and the door was always open... would go off 4-5 times a day...

but itd make me look... and it would just go.. WHOOOP WHOOOP.... then nothing.... so it wasnt too annoying...

When i looked up i'd see the person and they'd look around and then be very carefull around the car... they'd make sure they wouldnt touch the car with their doors or trolley... Its amazing how much more carefull they'd be... nobody wants to be standing next to a car when its alarm goes full on berzerko.. and everyone thought if they even touched it it would go mental... it was great... and by close they'd have to almost be touching the car...had about a 5 cm range from the body of the car... and about 10cm from the window'd areas as they're less dense...

And yeah the microwave thingy is good, Oli's doesn't have it but probably should.

I lefted the wipper on his car the other night and it wasn't untill I touched the car the alarm went off.

izonme, is that alarm insurance approve?

The most important thing is, getting an alarm that is insurance approve, or you can forget doing any claim if anything happen to your car.

There are heaps of post on this already and there are some nice tips in those posts as well

I like the sound of thie so called mongoose - but yea as someone mentioned - does it become excessive with the microwave sensor thing?

and turning it off - click of a button type deal? deterent is a very good idea but i dont wanna be overly annoying - or having my dad set the alarm off when he comes home and parks next to my car in our gargae late night or something like that.

on that note - this mongoose alarm (or similar) come without those sensors if they are reviewed "too excessive" ???

Hrmm all these posts about vehicle vandalism has got me wanting a microwave sensor on my mongoose. Might swing by the alarm installer place on friday and see what they'll charge for fitting the microwave sensor in...too bad it doesn't cover the rear and front of the car though

If someone wants to key your car an alarm ain't gonna stop em. Probably not wise to be announcing what flavour alarm you have either. Makes it easier for would be thieves. I have all black wiring for insurance purposes only but think about which would be easier. All the black wires going to the alarm or lots or pretty colours wired into the factory wiring.

I have an alarm so I get a payout if my car is stolen...I don't for a second think it's going to stop a pro stealing it if they really want it. Still I hope it does deter them at least.

The microwave sensor is not excessive because it only beeps twice when it senses something... it doesnt actually go off like the normal alarm...

and i have a switch on my dash to turn it on and off...

very easy.... worst case scenario, if it annoys you just switch it off untill your in a dodgy area

re: black wiring - im assuming u actually mean the colour of wire is black so its harder to cut the correct wire or something?

also: if i get one of these mongoose alarms or another how much is additional microwave sensor and swtich gona be sam? (with install)

Expect $80-140... i think... was over a year ago i got mine... hard to remember..

Messy, re black wiring, you've hit the nail on the head there. That is the theory. Insurance companies especailly seem to demand it but as Dr Jones said surely it would be harder if it was all wired in to look like part of the factory harness, if not actually being a part of the factory harness.

From my poin tof view the only realy protection you can have is post event (ie insurance) my basic understanding of current systems are they won't stop someone keying your car.

Exactly... nothing will stop someone keying, breaking into, stealing your car...

however some things may deter them a bit... and reduce the chance and reduce your premiums at the same time.
