just for the record when i bought my car i unknowingly bought a lemon which to my surprise had a crack in the engine block which was unrepairible. and the worst part was that i only found out after the 6 month warranty was expired.

anyway i went to see Joe & Ricks today and was told that i can get a reconditioned engine block installed hopefully in time for Auto Salon.

if so then i will be at ease because i will know that it has new piston rings, gaskets/seals, belts and fluids which will almost be like getting a new engine. :D

the only bad part is the cost. they said roughly $3000 + labour.

Does suck, but hell - you spend that 3k and you get peace of mind for a long long time (and lotsss of kilometers) :D :D

Was it a GPX, and if not, is it gonna be a GPX now?

yeh it is a GPX :D

and i will be happy that i won't have to worry about flooring it any more.

i think he said he has to source an engine from somewhere else.

coz last time i went there he said that Sam's engine was in realy bad condition.

ok so new plan.

Joe and Ricks couldn't source any rings or pistons for the reconditioning of the block.

So i went and found a second hand gr engine in good condition for $500 and im getting my heads transfered over to that block.

i have organised new gaskets and im getting some new NGK sparkies , all fluids and filters so all i have to pay for then is labour.

It should end up a lot cheaper then first expected.

WOOP :D

should be done in the next few weeks as soon as i can make the booking.

Does anyone know of anything else i should get while this is being done. just small cheap stuff? (like leads and stuff)

Change your timing belt, tensioner and pulleys as well as checking your engine mounts.

Waterpump, engine seals etc, J&R will know of the other things you should do while you've got your engine out, & theres always going to be loads of other things that you 'might as well' do while your car is off the road as well (if you have the money)

Probably the most overlooked thing, but if your car has the engine out, go down there & give the engine bay a thorough clean out... or check if theres a mobile car cleaner that could do it instead ... its so difficult to do it any other time..

the time is finally here, my engine is nearing completion date!!

the GR enigine which i bought has been taken to Joe and Ricks and will be broken down (head and block). after this it will be reconstructed using the block from that enigne and reconditioned GPX heads they have down there, which have all new interior components..

fitted to this newly constructed engine is all new gaskets in every section, new timing belt, iridium spark plugs all round, new head bolts and an Exedy "sports tuff" heavy duty clutch.

I also have Sam's exhaust to be fitted whenever we get a time sorted, this will feature a high flow cat, 2.5 inch mandrel bent pipe with no restrictors, finished off with Dual 4 inch cannon style tips..

and as soon as the group buy for the extractors is completed i will be fitting those as well.

Rick assures me that this will be done before Christmas, Looking forward to it :!:

Hey Maggsy, so you'll have a set of GR heads? Do you have the GR intake manifold as well? If I give you a few bucks, could I buy them off you & get them shipped to Syd?
