Boy racer 'epidemic'

ok, so heres the low down,
a couple of weeks ago a party here in CHCH got out of hand and some dude got pissed off and drove his honda through a street full of 16/17 year olds, killed 2 girls and put another 6 people in hospital, there was a big "boy racer" uproar and public meetings etc etc

n then last week a 20 year old 'race starter' was killed when 2 cars crossing the finish line mowed him down, that was in Tauranga (say it with me "Tower-onga")

and now 2 sky lines in Taupo ("tow-paw") have collided and a 16 year old girl is in hospital in an induced coma.

so one of my mates from MSport (our mitsi club here in christchurch) got rang up to be on the breakfast show and basically got setup.

theres all talk now on licencing problems and limiting the CC's of a vehicle that a teenager can drive etc etc.... the usual bullshat.

anyway, heres the interview (dont worry bout the stupid ad at the start of it)

not to sound like a rude prick, but your mate is a bit of an idiot to agree to do the interview
...i guess i more mean he's a bit of a hoper and dreamer rather than idiot. :)

he should've known that he would get set up like that, come on think about it, if the news thing actually tried to present an equal unbias view of both sides then they'd be hounded and thousands of complaints would reach them before the week is out.

obviously the majority of the population dislike "boy racers", and all tv shows inc news etc are all just for ratings, so they wont try to piss ppl off.
So your mate should've known, and either refused, or at least prepared like all crazy for everything and anything that they might throw at him to minimise the dmg, i think him appearing on there actually made "boy racers" look worse.

with that said, i'm sure he's a nice guy :) but the world isnt lol

not sure what u guys do there, but just do what we do, and meet at places with less ppl :D
once again.... with that said... u do get a fair amount of idiots here anyway, and not to put boost cruising down, but everyone of them (the idiots... u know the bad apples) that i can think of r in some way associated with boost cruising.
um... guess what i'm trying to get at is i think it's the resposibilities of these car clubs to educate the members about being... as less annoying to other ppl as possible.

p.s. u guys have a funny sounding "the warehouse" jingle lol

hahahha, if this new bitching session about cars etc sticks and they do make new laws etc regarding it then u guys will have nothing on us lol

we have better weather, better rugby team, better cricket team, better looking sheep that r virgins, we can say fish and chips better.... u get the idea (all the important things)lol, the only thing that u guys had on us was car, cos your compliancing is a lot easier and also u can drive a lot easier, but if this sticks then... lol

maybe i should start educating kiwis about a few things written into our constitution, in particular the bit that says that:

we can except NZ as another state of aus, if u guys want us to

lol, maybe we can do a swap, we accept u as a state and we get rid of the little island hanging off the bottom of us :D

maybe if the soon to be new rules + laws will piss enough ppl off so they'd defect to us lol

"feeesh and cheeeeps?"

hmmmmmmm nah u cant say it betta!

some places have by-laws in place where between 7pm and 7am you cant drive anything less that a light truck on that street (industrial areas) and if u do its a $500 instant fine.... stupid,

yeah well its basically all caused by

1) our ease of licenc (15 year olds)
2) ease of finance
3) price of cars
4) availability of aftermarket parts
5) lack of available policing ie,

some laws say your exhaust cant be too loud... how loud is too loud etc etc etc

its all fucked up.... i blame Hitler Clarke

and you think john howard is bad!

thats why im leaving NZ!

running away from the missus are we? lol

all things aside, the whole driving at 15 thing... no, that's just stupid.

here u have to be at least 17 to drive, i think even that should be changed to 18. cos if u thanks about it, u r not allowed to drink or smoke till u r 18... u r not allowed to put urself in danger with drugs, but it's ok for u to put urself and others in danger with 2 tones of metal capable of moving faster than 100Km/h
(of course, i would've said otherwise when i was 17 lol)

yeah, couldnt agree more, now im a bit wiser n had a few vehicular Fk ups, it should definatly be 18 here too, it was taken down from 21!

the way it works here...

age 15,
sit a scratchiee card test, gotta get 27/30 correct

Learner licence conditions:

You must not drive on your own. A supervisor must be sitting in the front passenger seat beside you when you're driving. Your supervisor must hold (and have held for at least two years) a current full New Zealand driver licence.
You must display 'L' (learner) plates on the front and rear of the vehicle.
You must have your learner licence with you when you're driving.
If you're under 20 years old, the legal alcohol limit is 30 mg/100 ml of blood. This is effectively a zero limit - one drink means you can be charged with drink driving.
If you're over 20 years, the legal alcohol limit is 80 mg/100 ml of blood. Your driving, however, may be affected well before you reach the legal alcohol limit.

You can apply for a restricted licence after you've held a learner licence for at least six months.

Sit a Practical licence test.

Restricted licence conditions:

Holders of a restricted licence must adhere to the following conditions:

You can drive on your own, but not between 10 pm and 5 am. Between these times you must be accompanied by a supervisor, who must sit in the front passenger seat beside you. Your supervisor must hold a current, full New Zealand driver licence and have held this for at least two years.
If you sat the test in an automatic transmission vehicle, your licence will say that you can only drive automatic vehicles.
You must not carry passengers unless you have a supervisor with you.

How to get a full licence:

All restricted licence holders (Class 1 licence) need to sit and pass a full licence test before graduating to a full licence.

The full licence test involves a thorough examination of your driving skills and how you detect and respond to driving hazards.

You can apply for a full driver licence after 18 months on your restricted licence if you're under 25 years of age, or after six months on your restricted licence if you're 25 years of age or older. This time can be reduced if you successfully complete an approved course.

the NZ rules vs qld rules (bold things r qld rules)

age 15, 16.5
sit a scratchiee card test, gotta get 27/30 correct same
Learner licence conditions:

You must not drive on your own. A supervisor must be sitting in the front passenger seat beside you when you're driving. Your supervisor must hold (and have held for at least two 1years) a current full New Zealand driver licence Australian from any state i'm pretty sure, or it might be just qld.
You must display 'L' (learner) plates on the front and rear of the vehicle.
You must have your learner licence with you when you're driving.
If you're under 20 years old, the legal alcohol limit is 30 mg/100 ml of blood. This is effectively a zero limit - one drink means you can be charged with drink driving. the legal blood alcohol leave is 0.00, cant register anythign what so ever
If you're over 20 years, the legal alcohol limit is 80 mg/100 ml of blood. Your driving, however, may be affected well before you reach the legal alcohol limit. still 0.00

You can apply for a restricted licence after you've held a learner licence for at least six months. we call it Privisionals lol (aka P plates etc)

Sit a Practical licence test.
not sure about u guys, but we r meant to have a 45min exam, just driving around on the roads and what not near the transport centre, u r meant to get tested for muilty point turn; parallel parking and something else that i cant remember, as well as driving around and what not. if u make a critical error then instant fail (i.e. not obeying any road rules even if u just forget to indicate on an empty st, or any colision which includes touching the gutter while doing the multi point turn or parrallel parking or even using someone's driveway counts as a colision), and 12 no critical errors (which include things like stalling, taking off in the wrong gear, minor cases of tail gating, not making it obvious to the examiner that u've checked your mirrors before merging, indicating late etc... etc... all the stuff that we still do now anyway lol). but my test lasted less than 15mins, and the only thing i had to do was half a parallel parking.

Restricted P licence conditions:

Holders of a restricted P licence must adhere to the following conditions:

You can drive on your own, but not between 10 pm and 5 am. Between these times you must be accompanied by a supervisor, who must sit in the front passenger seat beside you. Your supervisor must hold a current, full New Zealand driver licence and have held this for at least two years.
If you sat the test in an automatic transmission vehicle, your licence will say that you can only drive automatic vehicles.
You must not carry passengers unless you have a supervisor with you. none of this stuff just yet, but i remember in the last 4 yrs they've had at least 3 big stinks about it, and each time it gets worse... so not long now. but obviously the auto thing is the same :), and the blood alcohol level is still 0.00 when u r on your Ps, there's top speed restrictions depending on how long u've had your Ps for as well (i.e. if your P plate says 90, and u r on a 110 road, u have to do 90)
also u might be able to apply to get your Ps from 15 for special circumstances, i.e. u need it for work and u have to work, but this is as rare as ducks teeth

How to get a full licence we call it Open licence, aka opens :P:
All restricted P licence holders (Class 1 licence) need to sit and pass a full licence test before graduating to a full licence.

The full licence test involves a thorough examination of your driving skills and how you detect and respond to driving hazards.

You can apply for a full driver licence after 18 months on your restricted licence if you're under 25 years of age, or after six months on your restricted licence if you're 25 years of age or older. This time can be reduced if you successfully complete an approved course.

automatically up grade to an Open license when your time is done, if u were under 21 when u got your Ps, u have to hold it for 3yrs (not including time spent with your licence suspended, hance why i've had my licence close to 4yrs but still havent gotten my opens yet lol), if u were older than 21 when u got your licence then it's 1 yr (this is the most screwed up part of our system i think, cos dad got his licence after i got mine and now he's on his opens, and so far he's managed to hit our fance twice, a saab once, a pole once and almost hit boarsai's car once, but i've only hit 1 pole once lol)

so weighing everything up... i think our system is probably better, if nothing else then the age and time periods let ppl mature a bit more. although the test for a full licence is prolly a good idea.
