I was wondering what tyres u guys use... i know theres a tonne of threads on this topic but none recently...
as im about to get new tyres i want something that will give me good performance and last about 25,000kms?

ive had Falken Ziex on before for $150 each.. these lasted me about 15,000kms? and weren't great at handling

i then switched to nankang ns-I and ns-II... these lasted about 30,000kms and handling was not noticeably different to the Falkens...

ive also had kumho ecsta supra on my silvia... these lasted me about 10,000km but they do handle!!! but at $230 a tyre... im not willing to spend that much again for 10,000km thats like 1c a km!!! so its like +8c to every litre of petrol i get... not worth it in my opinion!

what do u guys think?!

i know our pres uses nankangs as well

im also a poor man that likes to cane in around corners though...

Me too.. I'm using pirelli p7000 The handle well, only time they dont grip is in the wet if you take a corner way over the limit, then you get a "cute" slide happening but they where like $200 a tyre.

I have Potenza GIII's, been on the car for about 20,000k's, I just recently switched the back tyres to the front. Now the front have roughly about 75% thread and the back I'd say about 60%. I think it's still good for another 10,000km's.

I do like to take corners hard and the grip is great. But then again I do drive like a granny when the misses is in the car, which is most of the time. By myself I just let it rip.

Not too sure of the pricing on them though.

I have bridgestone S-01 which are standard tyres for Honda S2000, they grip like formula cars, but i m not sure how long they can last, but at least 15000km

my choice....pirelli p-zero rossos
they have lasted at least 5 track days and still got some meat left
i've done 27000km in them
they are superb in wet and dry

michellin pilot sport / dunlop sport maxx ... it's sooo damn grippy compare to all other types it's not funny, as i keep telling everyone but no one listen

all them cost so much $$$!!!

Those falkens ziex are a deathtrap
THe nankangs are better but not great

I used Bridgestone S-02
Expensive but unbelievable grip in them!

Now I have A drives. Haven't driven the car with them but they are nowhere near as good as the S-02's but are about half the price too

I think Yokohama C-Drives are quite good for a reasonable price

um... i've had my car for just over a yr now and the tyres are still whatever that came with it.
they seem to be real good on wear, cos i swear after a yr (about... 12000km i think)... i dont think it's even worn 1mm... i have been nicer to these tyres than others cos i want to drag them out till i get new rims but still.. 12000km = <1mm wear seems great

Just keep in mind, even thought the model and brand is the same, the size of the tyres will makes a fair bit of different.

Have a look at the April issue of Wheels, they did a tyres test for 16's and 18's. While Goodyear Eagle F1 came first in the 245/45/R18, it came second last in the 205/55/R16, or the Pirelli P Zero Rosso, its second last in 18's but came second in 16's.

To me, when it comes to tyres, it is the most important thing for the car, as its the only thing that keeps the car contacting the road, and also it makes a hell lot of different by spending extra 50-100 each.

Those who spend little as possible is telling people their life is only worth that $200-$400 dollars of saving.

Size and profile of tyre also makes a big difference in price...

I had Yokohama C-Grids on my last car (Nissan NX-R) which cost me $240 each on stock rims (15" from memory. Think they were 205 rubber, not sure of profile).

Loved em.

When I was buying new wheels for my FTO (18 x 8's) I asked about C-Grids and was quoted at $450 per tyre .

I got Nankang NSII's instead at $200 each and I'm quite happy with them. Of course there's better out there but I find they're a good compromise between price and handling.

Tyre size for the Nankangs is 225/35 R18 BTW.

They should be 200ish a tyre and should wear good


Check out a tyres treadwear rating
The higher it is, the longer they last.
It also gives you an idea of softness and grip

My A drives are 300 treadwear, so are those falkens
My S-02's were 180 treadwear, and friend semi's (stock on his STi) are 140 treadwear

Yeah, I'm on Yoko A-drives now too, for road use. They are a good, quiet, thoroughly boring tyre! Just what I needed for my good, quiet, thoroughly boring road driving!

Kumo stock 16inch tye.

Went to 17s I had Nankangs first they were terrible. Wear rate was great, but they were noisy and grip levels were crap. Preferred the Kumo.

I then went to the Good year Revspecs, awesome tyre, very quiet and had huge amounts of grip even when worn down, lasted about 20-30k.

Now im on the Gooa year Eagle F1 GDS3 great in the wet, bit noisier than the Revspecs, dry drip levels were not as good, more nervous around corners. But wear is better than the Revspecs.

So Revspecs wins easily for me.

Nang are known to be cheapo tyres.
