VIN/Chassis docoding
1. Chassis Series Classification
D = FTO
2. Model Classification
E2 = 1800cc 4G93 4 Cylinder
E3 = 2000cc 6A12 V6
3. Service Classification
A = Passenger Car Vehicle Shape
4. Year Classification
000xxxx = 1994 - 1995
010xxxx = 1996
020xxxx = 1997
030xxxx = 1998
5. Options
These numbers are specific to the options chosen on
your vehicle and can be decoded by a dealer.
6. Body Shape Classification
H = 2 Door Coupe
7. Gear Box Classification
Y = 5 Speed Tip-Auto
R = 4 Speed Tip-Auto
N = 5 Speed Manual
8. Equipment Classification
U = GS
H = GR
G = GPX
X = GX
F = GP
9. Engine Classification
E = 4G93 1.8 16v with Electronic Fuel Injection
M = 6A12 DOHC V6 with Electronic Fuel Injection
H = 6A12 MIVEC Engine DOHC V6 with Electronic Fuel Injection
Other codes (not confirmed)

There use to be a website where you can just type in your chassis number and it will give you all the info above. But i think its gone now, along 3-4 other good one.

And there will be another soon. Going to build a calculator for this soon and also for FTO registration. Would like to start to collect stats on numbers of different models/options to start to see what sort of patterns arise.

Yep, CAPS does it for you if you punch in the chassis number

Thats a Great idea. I hope it works out well for you lad. I wanna see the Originalty of my Car as well. & what it has been through.

Yeah, version 2.61 (which is available on request from FTO Ireland) is a cut down version - approx 400Mb, it primarily has FTO information only. The full version has all Mitsubishi makes & models available - its about 4 gig thou..

Yeah I have the cut down one. Things I could tell:
- missing sections (not all of the part diagrams available)
- part diagrams are rough and drawn rather than vector based
The latest Nissan guides were available from Yahoo so I was looking for a Mitsi one on there but haven't had any luck.
So Kev - now you've gone and created a waiting list!
