Absolutely fine to run in your FTO. In fact I'd recommend it.

This is about V-Power but there's a bit in there about VPR.

I changed to VPR for while now, and enjoying it definately, I still wouldnt use Optimax=VPower 98 Ron fuel.
If BP starts supplying 100RON I would go with them, dont like Shell as a company too much.

My service station attendant says its exactly the same as the Optimax, althpugh i dont think i should believe him as he thought my fto was a supra

Yep I steer clear of shell. BP Ultimate seems to get me my best bang for buck.

It actually reduce the stupid *ping* when i use extreme ... when to epping shell today but again, ran out

I've been running BP Ultimate in my car exclusively, ever since a few months after I got it, before that I tried Shell Optimax and some other premium fuels which didn't make the cut.

A couple of days ago, I was down to my last $20, so empty on fuel that I wasn't sure if I would make it to the nearest BP, and didn't want to fill up at Shell - so I drove past it, and the Mobil next to it, stopped in at Caltex and filled up with $13 of their Premium.

Strange thing is, my car actually seemed a hell of a lot smoother to drive than usual with the Caltex Premium in it - Not sure if it contains any ethanol or other fcuked up sh*t in their premium fuel though Does anyone know?

I have run Caltex Vortex 98 for most of the time cause its on the way home from work and honestly i think its pretty good.

But i do want to start getting the 100RON when available in Port Macquarie

Just out of curiosity, why stay away from Shell? Any technical reason behind that or is it just a boycott?

I lot of people belive the Shell gives greater and normal pings. I have seen at least 20 threads on this in 3 other forums.

Not sure about the technical stuff, whether they have nasty additives or anything like that, but my car does not like Shell fuel at all, ran it for a bit and it made my car sick, so I have boycotted them ever since.

from personal experience i can say i was getting a bad batch of
Optimax Extreme nearly 50% of the time...
so i changed to BP Ultimate and have not had a single problem

rumour* has it Optimax used to have an additive that went bad if it was
sitting in their tanks too long, so that's why they've changed to V-Power
(*note i said rumour - people at shell legal, don't sue me!!!)

most motorbike riders you talk to will refuse to run on shell products

all i know is Shell fuel gave me problems on a regular basis... BP doesn't...
so there's no way i'll be touching V-Power

*below is everything that has been stuck in my head, i can't remember where i read this, nor can I remember if there was any official proof*

The reason why Shell isn't as good as BP is because Shell fuels have Toluene in the mixture, which although adds to the RON rating of the fuel it is allegedly not very good for your car. This debate is huge and there is no clear answer as the effects of Toluene I think can only be seen in the long run. So this is really what the rating is:

BP Ultimate: Pure 98RON
Shell Optimax: 95RON + Toluene = 98RON

I'm not sure if the new renamed Shell fuels use Toluene, but i am pretty sure they do.

One thing to keep in mind is that when comparing Shell fuels you need to give time for the Toluene in the fuel tank and the fuel system to be removed which from memory takes a while, so if you have this many tanks of Shell in your fuel system it will take that long to clean out.

1 or 2 tanks = 2 tanks to flush the system
greater then 5 tanks = 3 tanks to flush the system

What this mean is that if you have been running on Shell for a while now, and change to BP, you fuel economy on BP will be crap because your fuel system has the Toluene in it. So basically try a few more tanks of BP and you will get the appropriate travel distances that you should get, if not more.

Also, when you have had Shell in your system, say Optimax 98RON, and you add BP Ultimate, what that does it actually increases your RON rating to maybe 99RON/100RON because of the Toluene still in the fuel system.

Sorry for the long winded post, all i have to say use different fuels for at least a number of tanks to test, and then make up your mind.
