Hey guys, quick question

can ftos have baby seats in them, i have been told they can but need confirmation, any help would be appreciated cheers guys

I can confirm they will.. had to fit one last week to transport a friend and their daughter. Rear seatbelts are a bit of a stretch to secure around the harness, but that mght have just been the actual harness design more than anything.

I'd say when they're built, they would have to comply with the standards of the time, some cars would be different, or not as easy to put baby seats in - especially if they're fairly old.
If you go to your local fire station they will install and check your baby seat for free.

Also, if you're in a crash you must replace the baby seat

FTO's originally can't fit a baby seat but when they get complianced for use on Australian roads they have one fitted

Yes i can confirm this. My FTO is under going compliance this week. Baby seat anchor's must be put in.

thanks for the help guys, one other question, what do the fittings look like, im told mine have been taken out of my car and i need to get ahold of some, are they bolts/brackets? and do they bolt into the parcel tray, thanks again

like everyone said they are required to have a point in the car for each rear seat (ie three in the FTO).

If yours have been removed (eg had a new parcel shelf put it) that actually means the car is ADR non-compliant and hence defectable -> unroadworthy bla bla bla.

They are basically a mounting hook, I'm sure someone can post pics but as it is a load bearing thing it's supposed to be done by a qualified professional (eg engineer). What state are you in?

im in qld, and i understand it's defectable, the main reason i'm trying to find out is cause a guy is interested in my car but it has to be able to fit a baby seat, thanks the the help guys, if anyone does take the time to take pics it would be greatly appreciated, but if not im sure i can find them

Yep it can fit a babyseat... if you remove your rear parcel shelf you'll probably notice that it's a complete f**king bitch to take off, why? Because of the posts installed to allow for a babyseat as a part of compliancing, which can sometimes be so long that it's actually impossible to remove the shelf at all.

Pretty sure these are riveted in.

Depends on what it was complied and rego'd as. The two FTOs my gf has had were registered as a five seater. Note that in the unfortunate instance that you have to undergo a full-on defect check they will look at the number of seats registered to the car and the number of points.

burgo - contact QLD Transport for a list of 'approved persons' - they are the ppl who can sign off on the installation of the anchorage points.

They are five-seater from Japan (hence the middle seatbelt), but when they get import approval in Australia ADR requirements specify certain space requirements in the rear seats for passengers. Sometimes workshops will just not bother and get it registered as a 4 seater. E.g the middle seat in a Supra does not meet the ADR requirements for a five seater without some modifications.

I've seen it with a lot of imports, not just FTOs. Bit rare these days, but it can happen.

You cant. The FTO can only registered as a 4 seater. Besides, have a look at the rear seat. It would be quite uncomfortable to sit on. It has only been designed to fit 2 on the back seat anyways - and legless dwarves at that.
