Vista-Aero???

Hi all, thinking of buying a new laptop and like the HP dv6113tx. Just wondering if it will run Aero when Vista is readily available. I tried Google but there was too much crap to sort through. I figured someone here would know.

It has an Nvidia geforce go 7400 card with 256mb of ram.

ROFL~ I think what you should be asking yourself is "Will it run Vista when it is readily available"

Don't get Windows vista whatever you do... I'm not saying that you should start running Linux or anything (Which would be better anyways) but just don't get it, even stick with Windows XP instead

That HP he mention will run Vista, if you go to HP website and search that model, it actually said it recommend Vista Home.

By the way Dr, are you asking about Aero as in AeroLogic? If so i think you better wait till they have the media/news release. As you know they had problem with Windows before.

just do a google search on windows vista bugs, windows vista drm, windows vista reviews, windows vista security flaws, window vista system requirements and cpu/ram usage

basically Microsoft's latest sh*tty attempt at making an OS, and somehow managing to screw it up worse than ever

In answering your intital question, if you take Microsoft's word for it, "Home users 'should' be able to run it with the system they have already got with 128mb - 256mb ram minimum (apparently)" Although it will most probably run very slow and sloppy on anything other than some fairly recent hardware.
The graphics card you have will be important for how well you can run aero, the better it is, the better it will run, and i've read that it won't work with integrated graphics

that reminds me when XP was released everyone said the same thing....sh*t blah blah. Basically they release it and let their customers do the product testing...

it will be fine in a few months.

Hehe, exactly :P You'd think Microsoft would have gotten it right by now. Not much that can be done as long as there are stores out there like Harvey Norman and The Good Guys who will blindly recommend it to consumers who don't know any better.

Well there is a different, XP had never release a "tech version" for more then a yr, while Vista had almost for 2yrs. The company i'm working for now had been testing the public release version for more then 6mths.

I've been playing with both Vista and Office 2007 (offical copy send by microsoft, and not download) for more then a yr, I'm not saying they are perfect, and its far from it, but let just say they improved a lot and will have way less bug then XP when it was launch.

With the graphic cards, instead of just blindly getting a so call high end one, which usually design for gaming, get something proper that design to run software like Aero, Autocad and Achicad. Quatro FX or Matrox is the way to go, but it will cost you an arms and legs.

microsoft realised a beta version of XP for about a yr before it was properly released as well, technically i'm still running the beta version right now...
funnily enough... the first release of windows XP was identical to the beta version (as far as i can tell, i'm no programer... dont even think it matters since they r not open source anyway, but when i was working in the computer shop, before SP1 was released, there were very little or no extra updates for my beta version compared to professional)

but seriously, I wouldn't worry too much about the bugs etc... chances r, it'll happen to someone else before it happens to you, so the fix would already be there for you, that's if the updates didnt fix it already....

hmm... thinking about that... on second thoughts dont get Vista right away unless you have a fast internet connection, otherwise u'll spend half of your time on the computer updating lol

I've been using Vista x64 for the past 30days no worries, only problem I have is iTunes is f**king flakey as with it and there's no cannon scanner drivers yet. Everything else works perfectly and looks brilliant, the more you use it the more you learn to appreciate it over XP.

It's a bit of a dog if you only have a gig of ram though, really need 2 to enjoy a smooth experience.

Aero just needs a card that's shader model 2.0 and direct x 9 compliant as far as I know,

Seems like your card will own all of vista aero's bases, as they now belong to us.

You must have a really old machine, most motherboard from 2yrs ago can take up to 4GB of RAM, even though XP can only recognise maximum of 3.25GB of RAM

Sorry borep, filelodge seems to be offline at the moment so my image links are down, I cbf'd moving the hosting yet. If it stays down for much longer i'll give it the old fixaroo.

2gigs is what i'd recommend as a bare minimum for vista, it usually eats about 500 - 750mb minimum just idling, if you want to game on top of that you *have* to have 2gb. Battlefield 2 ran like a complete dog when I was still at 1gig on vista (ran fine on XP) and now with the 2 it runs smooth as again.

Scarecrow is right about memory usage. A clean image idles at between 500-700mb. If you install an anti-virus suite which will now integrate in windows security center, memory usage will blow out to over a gig.

All that said, Vista isn't as bad as people make out. I work for a Anti-Virus company and been using Vista for a while now. Apart from the UAC functionality now built into vista I cant really fault it. Only problem is the price.
