Farrrk this is like a double up for KJ's post.. fken hell this is the first time in 3 and a half years of driving that I've EVER been pulled over for speeding.. (cos i drive like a fken granny since im paranoid 24/7)
Anyway.. I was driving home, my eyes couldnt stay home cos i was dead tired from beign at a bbq for 10 hours and not drinking since I was going to drive, so at 2am, i was on old windsor road (its a massive road with no houses or anything next it, its like the motorway almost)
Its pitch black and I see a car on the grass just and it's a cop so I pull over, wait for him and get out of the car to show respect as soon as he does. So I was doing 91kms in a 70 zone. He asks me why I was speeding i told him to be honest I was really tired, was at friends bbq, they forced me to stay late since they were all drinking and i didn't drink cos I was driving, and I didn't notice my speed cos I was just concentrating hard on the road cos I'm tired. (which was the truth)
He was alrite, he didn't say anything nasty he was a young guy and didn't make many comments but he seemed OK. Then he goes back to his car, 2-3 mins later he comes out and says "You were doing 21kms over the speed limit." Gives me a fine and says "Make SURE you get this paid within 21 days"
I told him just for the record I never speed, I've got younger bros who are 17 and I'm always tellin em to drive careful and I dunno how I could be so careless, so he said that's udnerstandable, wished me a happy new year and then just left.
BUT, now am I going to get a letter in the mail saying I lost my license? Cos on double demerits there is no way I'm gonna have enuf points to cover me going 15kms+ on double demerits..
If I was going to loose demerits, would the cop have told me? If not, it's upto the cop if I loose points or he lets me off with jsut a fine?
Is it double demerits AND double suspension of license?
How long is the license suspention.. normally 6 months?
I've never been caught speeding before so do how does it work, I'm sure a few people here probably have so please fill me in
Overall, to me it seemed like he let me go, but then I told my friend when I got home and he said I might get a letter but he's not sure how it works

Subby subby subby ... What were you thinking!? If you're gonna speed & loose your licence, you gotta do it with style! 160km over the limit in a school zone
Anyways, If you're gonna fight it check over at the reply i left for khunjeng

Yes, do it in style and end up in Jail FTW! The last thing I need is people dropping the soap on purpose around me
Anyway, my fine doesn't say I lose any points, so am I alright? Cos fuk.. i live at castle hill, i work near parramatta and im gonna start my course in February in the city after work, and without my car I gotta either leave work or leave studying..

you like bein' the one dropping the soap!?¿ :S hehe
You would lose points going 21 over, but I'm not sure how many exactly, cause i've never been given a ticket for speeding.
I am in QLD, so you would need to check the laws for down there, but up here I am pretty sure that it is only instant loss of licence for 30km - 40km over the limit.
Pretty sure that if you have lost enough points that you can't drive anymore, that the cop would have taken away your licence on the spot, and not allowed you to drive home. So you may be safe. & at least the public transport system down there is better than what it is in QLD, 'tis a hell of a lot easy to get around the place. What are you gonna study?>

i think you fine just pay the fine and get your license back, there shouldnt be any suspension period as you were going to slow

they didn't take away my license but this is what I've heard from like 3 people so far.
They got pulled over, and were given a fine, nothing was mentioned about demerit points.. But they got a letter in the mail like 2 months later advising them they lost points, and 1 of my friends got a letter saying that starting from xx/xx/06 to xx/xx/06 his license is suspended as he does not have sufficient points.
Hopefully I'll be ok...
Studying - I was studying architecture earlier this year, I did it for halfway through the year then I dropped out cos I wanted to continue on with a different line in Architecure, which only starts at the start of the year.
I work about a 20 minute drive from home, and I'm going to be studying about a 40 min drive from where I work.. so I need my car, or else I dunno whay I'm gonna do.
Public transport sux where I live, a train station is scheduled to be completed in 2015.. and It's a newly developed area and basically I can't rely on public transport.. dammit!
Well all i can do is wait to see what happens, thanks..

Sorry bit off topic but not really worth starting my own thread. Do speed cameras always flash at night when taking a picture?
Work

If you need the car to get to work, I think you can plead a special case (From memory, you end up with something like P plates again). One of the guys I work with was faced with this choice. Not sure whether he had an ACT licence or NSW (He lives in NSW). If it ends up being a suspension, maybe you can look into this.

Yeah, looks like you will loose 6 points but no instant disqualification, unless you don't have 6 points. If this is the case, then they will send you a letter advising of when your licence is suspended from and to. Even if you where going over 45km/h, they don't always take your licence straight away. Some do, some don't.

just wait for the RTA letter, but i think u lose 6 points...and 6 months off driving...the police wont give u the demerit point...the RTA will...so yeah...the fine should be double too, i think...

yea but I lost 2 points for doing a U turn at a traffic light.. so I only have 5 points left
Oh and dstocks, i think your talkin abt a good behaviour driving scheme or sumthing, but thats not applicable to provisional drivers and I'm a green P Plater.. damn this will teach me for being on my red Ps for 2 and a half years.. stupid me, could have had my full license a year ago!

Its called a black Licence, and allows you to drive to and from work, but nowhere else. Gives you one point, so it may be an option for you.
