I tried to install a new steering wheel yesterday, and ended up putting the stock one back in cause i discovered I was missing two tiny screws which are for aesthetic purposes only. Anyway, when I started driving my car today, I've discovered that the indicators don't turn off anymore when you've finished going round a corner. What have I done?

Also, it seems the grooves on the new wheel aren't in quite the same position as the old one, so I can't get the new wheel to be perfectly aligned with straight wheels. In other words I have to have the wheel turned slightly to the left or the right (depending on how I put it on) to be able to drive straight. Is this easily fixed up with a wheel alignment? Is it something i can do myself?

Hey Ben, the indicators are canceled by a black plastic ring that sits behind the wheel as you've probably seen. The are 3 plastic lugs that protrude from that ring & slot into 3 holes on the back of the wheel - or if you have an aftermarket wheel & boss kit, they should slot into 3 holes in the back of the boss. See pic:



That whole assembly is pushed towards the wheel by a small spring. If you haven't lined those holes up it will be pushed back on its spring & not turning with the wheel. Hence the no indicator cancel. Just pull that wheel off & re-align that plastic unit.

With the new wheel, if you are unable to mount it straight, then yes, a wheel alignment can correct that. Just let them know it needs doing. They simply wind the alignment arms in a certain amount on one side & out the same on the other end of the rack - hence a full shift to one side without loosing the alignment (kinda hard to explain I know...)

Ah right! I did wonder what those 3 little lugs were. I thought I lined them up right but obviously not.
