FTO AUSTRALIA

Hey guys im gonna buy a car just after new years and i'm thinking of getting a 95/96 FTO GPX. The other cars im considering are a celica from the same year and a SSS. How do these cars stack up to each other?

It's going to be driven from Sydney to Golburn and back once a week, so it needs to be tough. I had my mind set on an FTO until i read that parts were very expensive. Is this true? Anything else i should look out for when buying an FTO?

If you are going to drive long distance then why not drive in style (FTO).

As the car's you are looking for a 10+ years old the parts are hard to come by hence the price, but part's for the FTO is no more expensive then others, it depends where you go to get ripped off.

Celica's are ugly things, I wouldn't drive it if it was given to me that goes for excels but to each their own.

What's your price range???

Fto for sure and if your doing long distances might as well get a V6 much better than a 4 banger

It's a sexy little car, a lot of people still have no clue what it is so you have that illusion of uniqueness.

The FTO has heaps of potential to look so much sexier than it already does, aswell. Whether you want a nice clean European sports car look, or a big hot smoking bowl of rice! FTO transforms very well.

They produce a really hot sound too, unlike like most jap cars that sound like boats out of water.

Edit: Parts arn't too expensive these days, there are lots of places to source parts from, and those that are expensive rarely bust.

The 95 FTO got Japanese Car of the year (The other 2 didnt!). Nuff said..

Seriously though, the FTO would have to be one of the best value sports cars on the market. Parts used to be difficult to find, but not so bad now.

Tough hey...well generally, Toyota and Nissan are considered tougher than Mitsubishis but the FTO does come with a really nice engine. I have a feeling that the Toyota's 3s-ge and the SSS's sr20 are going to be tougher though. Those engines are famous for a reason. Celica's don't look that bad do they...? But the SSSs are a plain old pulsar shell, very boring and low quality build.

Performance wise, the FTO in manual form are going to eat the celica and SSS straight line and handling wise (i'm assuming mivec model...i havn't driven a non mivec model so can't comment, but from figures, it should match well with the celica and sss). Parts are going to be a little bit more expensive than the celica and sss, but not by a big margin.

End of the day, if it were me...for your situation, i'd be torn between the celica and fto.

Actually, you did say celica from the same year right ? I don't think those celicas had the 3s-ge anymore...but the 5s-fe. Just check, but if it's the 5s-fe engine, go for the fto. The 5s-fe is not rev happy, and has been known to throw rods etc if the driver was rev happy.

i test drove a 1800 year 2000 celica the other day and next to southerfto's GS it was DOG SLOW! avoid it at all costs! handled like a f**king bus and gearbox was fkd. had 114XXX k's

Something you need to think is ..........
if you going to get yourself a 95' model car........... both Nissan & Toyota will be an old shape, and you won't feel comfortable when you see someone driving a new shape!

But FTO still the current model !!!!

If you want a car, go the Celica ... but
If you want a CAR get an FTO - but don't bother with a GR, get GPX or GPvR mivec.

FTO's are one of the (if not the most) sexiest mid 90's model cars you will find within an affordable price range If theres anything in particular that you're worried about, search the posts on buying an fto

Ideally i'd like 15k to cover the car and insurance. However, i just got one of those quick quotes from just car insurance, and they quoted me 3.5k so thats really got me thinking. Is it worth taking the gamble and getting 3rd party for a year? Also, anybody know what the car theft rate is like in Golburn?

Goulburn has a high security prison on the eastern edge doesn't it? Oooer and the Big Merino. Don't think the crime rate was overly high, my grandpa lives there. (: Windy and dry (at the moment) place though... yuck. That dam out there, is it empty yet?

nor IMO but it would really save you money. what is the insurance on the other cars?

well obviously we will tell u to buy an FTO cos we all own one. but at least u can see how much we all love it, and so will you if u buy one

Check out the for sale, come take it for a test, might help you decide....

Get your parents to insure it for you...

nope. the only people that'll insure your FTO will put it under the youngest driver.. so it could be under your grandfather's name, but as long u drive it, u gotta pay the amount that applies to your age bracket
