Cheaper than some on eBay, actually. There's just one bolt that was a bit short, but we did fit a nut on it. It is still making a little bit of noise on start up though...

Hah, yeah, that'd be about right. We could meet in the hills where it's ten degrees cooler!

Yeah, might need checking out. Started on the second time this morning, but had me worried.
Meanwhile, picked up one of these for $225 shipped off ebay. \o/ Yay for clearance stock! I've been seeing a little about it, but what is the deal with the mounts on these vs stock? Have people been getting things fabbed because they can or because they've needed to?

Nothing much exciting happening, asides from almost hydro-locking, lel. Finally went to the insurance inspection to see who they will decide gets the job. Beginning of a not so great day = rain. Continuing = terribly designed driveway and water deeper than it appeared. Worrisome = steam from engine bay. Which fortunately (due to the continued running of the car) seems to have just been ambient engine heat; and I couldn't see any water in the airbox, but I did manage to lift the ram pipe and flush a bit out of that. And then discovered that despite being told on the phone that the inspection was at 7.00am, the place only opened at 7.30! /ragequit. Furthermore, it turned out (whether I had been ill informed or missed something along in the conversation) that it was not just an inspection, but had I left the car there, the repairs would have begun immediately. Which would have been nice, had I had another car to use, and seeing as I don't have a policy that provides a hire car and don't want to rent one for $50 per day I will have to wait until I actually have some way to get to work. With All Jap Day coming up as well, I'm not sure if it would be better to go with the bit of damage that I do, or to see if the car will be done by then, or rescind my entry.
TL;DR
almost broke it. rain sucks. repairs suck.

Sucks about weather, it's the only real reason I haven't done a similar air intake, as it rains so much here, and there are a lot of big puddles...

That's why I provided a TL;DR for you simple, uncomplicated folk.

Yeah, I mean, it has a fair way to travel up the pipe before it reaches the intake, and I was probably going a slight too quick for the size of the puddle. I wonder whether a hole at the bottom of the pipe would be a good idea, but for the most part it isn't much of an issue.

modifying your intake pipe in the form of a hole in the bottom of the pipe will see an exponential amount of effect in extracting the two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen from the intake pipe, whilst not impacting on the flow of the air through it too dramatically.

Helpful automotive advice, ironic forum connoisseur.
But srs, might get around to doing that. Though it's dried up for the moment, so it can probably wait for a bit. Did you use anything in particular, or just hack at it with a pair of scissors?
