Only other damage I've found thus far is to the final drive gear on the secondary shaft (which I've got a spare)
Will do a more thorough check during the week.

Um... yeah that'll improve the driveability... LOL.... and noise
The gear shafts are ok (bar the final drive cog)
Im wondering if anyone is Aus can supply Cusco parts... (as opposed to whole diffs) I could rebuild then innards of it...

So I did some homework with ASA.
This is the list of cars that share our manual LSD:
-----------------------------------------------
C53A - 1990 RS Cyborg Mirage, FWD 4G61T Hatch
C63A - 1990 VIE Saloon Mirage, FWD 6G61 Sedan
C73A - 1990 Cyborg Mirage, 4WD 4G61T Sedan
C83A - 1990 Cyborg Mirage, 4WD 4G61T Hatch
-----------------------------------------------
CA4A - 1994 Mirage / Lancer, FWD 4G92 Mivec (Auto and Manual)
CB4A - 1994 Mirage / Lancer, FWD 4G92 Mivec (Auto and Manual)
CB6A - 1999 Mirage, FWD 6A10
-----------------------------------------------
CC3A - 1994 Mirage, 4WD 4G91 Hatch (Auto and Manual)
CC4A - ?
CC5A - ?
CC7A - ?
-----------------------------------------------
CD71 - 1991 Mirage, 4WD Diesel Sedan (Auto and Manual)
CD8A - 1992 Mirage, 4WD Diesel Sedan (Auto and Manual)
Quite the odd bod list!
Things to note:
The diff was used in other Jap Autos - where as the Auto FTOs with
the LSD have a different LSD - same viscous type, but with the smaller sized
driveshafts & different final drive ratio.
They were used in diesels
They were used as the front diff in the above 4WD models
The most common one we know of above (as most of them are weirdo JDM models) is the CA4A Mirage. Well guess what? Winning

Tell us more Ben! What does 1way mean? Is it goin to fit straight into manual gpx's?

1 way refers to the type, and how it acts with the gearbox/ road, drive style.
wiki isn't too bad on explaining it in depth
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited_slip_differential
so, you buying the diff Ben?

Dunno yet. Gotta talk to my gearbox man. It'll fit thou.
Also gotta find out of its a MZ or RZ. Would very much prefer the RZ, much less angry.

From what I gathered:
1way = locks on acceleration
1.5way = locks on acceleration, some lock on deceleration for a little 'stability' on cornering?
2way = locks on acceleration and deceleration and cornering?
Sounds like 1way is the friendly for the street one...
Update us with how you go Ben, I might get me one of these for mine too...

Finally started on the box rebuild.
This is the secondary shaft from my first box that was used with no oil. The shaft is fine (4th gear not so good lol) so Im gonna use it - as the final drive cog on my current box was rooted by the diff explosion. Also using the 3rd gear off this cluster to replace the chipped tooth in the current box.
Im sending this shaft off on Monday to be nitrided for extra strength.
Going to see my diff man next week too. By the looks of it there are 2 versions of the Mitsubish LSD available, a helical & the viscous. So we're gonna try get a helical one, which will be stronger than the viscous, plus I'll strip it & have the cogs shot peened for more strength again.

Thought I'd share a couple more pics with ya, more of just an FYI... things I discovered when stripping everything down.
This is the guts on a Mitsubishi factory LSD, viscous type.
More of the factory LSD. Note due to the size of all the sliding disks, the planetary gears & drive gears are actually quite small.
I reckon if I was to use this, I'd end up with the same explosion as I had in the Cusco. Just not enough meat in it to be strong.
This is a comparison of the 2 different final drive gears available, ie the 2 different diff ratio's between a GPX & GR.
Bugger all difference as far as teeth go, only 1 more. Bigger difference so far as mounting them to the diff thou as
the second pic shows. Internal diametres are quite different, effectively making them non-interchangeable

Sounds like you wont use that diff Ben?
Will that fit straight in easily into a 97 manual GPX? Even if it came from a GPVR 5sp Tip ?

Nope, driveshaft slots will be too small for manual shafts.

Ok... Furthermore, so the only LSD that would fit on my car would be from other manual fto's and 4sp tip fto's?

Get your own thread n00b!
Did more work on the box last few days. Its completely stripped in cluding all bearings & bearing shells.
Got bits sent off for hardening (nitriding) which I'll elaborate on when I get them back.
In the mean time, here's a pic for the full suite of bearings that are in the F5M42 manual box.
The ball bearings themselves are generic, the needle rollers are Mitsubish Specific.
Im not replacing the needle rollers as these ones are fine, the ball bearings however are in a different state.
Some ok~ish (including the primary shaft one I only replaced a few months back) others however, are for
lack of a better word - Fucked
Now as luck would have it (

) the F5M42 box and its variants were put into about a bazillion different Mitsubishi's.
They were also used in some Dodges

Meaning that the Yanks used them. Meaning that the yanks have complete
bearing kits for them... at lovely current Yank exchange rates

Even with the horrid $100 postage fee, this kit
only came to $270 odd bucks. Individual prices from my local bearing supplier came to $490!

The kit also has all the rubber seals, inculding rear mains!

Yes mate, they are. The difference is in the length of the belt. The 6A13 belt is slightly longer.
When I fix the search function I can tell you by exactly how much. Its in this thread somewhere I think lol.. possibly page 4.

It is a very interesting build but 40 odd pages is a lot to go through!
Have you had the 6A13TT opened at all, or is it as you bought it?
