Re: Bonfire 2013
Ive got plenty of spares. Most of the stuff on ebay is too expensive. Youre more than welcome to come along. There will likely be a couple of cars making the trip from QLD (im assuming you are up that way). Failing that, some people have flown into Sydney and caught a lift from there.

Mid North Coast, halfway between Sydney and Coffs.
Bit of a hillbilly area but more laxed than growing up on the Central coast and working in Sydney.

Re: Bonfire 2013
So Daniel2019 and myself have devised a fantastically simple plan for getting his new shell back from the bonfire. I'm going to tow it. (Wont be the first time I've towed an FTO
)
So, does anyone know of a car-trailer in the Sydney area I'll be able to drag around for a few days? Might even be able to take peoples crap down on it, and bring back any bulky items to Sydney. I have access to one but don't have an electric brake controller to tow it...
Alternatively, if anyone wants to help me wire in a brake controller, I'm sure I could write it off on tax...

I'll have an FTO one day... i swear!

The car trailers you hire from Kennards or U-Hual dont need brake controllers. They're cable braked.

Every car trailer I've hired was cable braked.

I guess its a shell, kinda. No engine/gearbox in it
But yeah, Fraz, its pretty much a complete car as far as I know

Oh.
I thought the engine and gearbox were also in it, and you had completely changed your plans...

Re: Bonfire 2013
The U-Haul trailers are barely rated for towing an FTO (maximum permissible weight is like 1100kg) and are dodgy as f*ck half the time. That, and I'm not a big fan of cable-brake systems that aren't maintained properly...Astron_Boy wrote:^Bennoz wrote:The car trailers you hire from Kennards or U-Hual dont need brake controllers. I also don't really wanna be paying the exorbitant fee for an entire weekend of usage, let alone having to drive from batemans bay to home, then back down to drop the trailer off. They also charge through the ahnoos for one-way hires...
I was under the impression that you were just getting the shell and then transplanting all the interior from your car into that? Ehh. Just means more weight.Daniel2019 wrote:But yeah, Fraz, its pretty much a complete car as far as I know

Re: Bonfire 2013
That was gonna be the plan, but now I dont really see a point. The car is in great shape and as dstocks has said, it would be a big shame to just part it out. I'd only end up buying half the parts back off Dwayne anywayfraz91 wrote:I was under the impression that you were just getting the shell and then transplanting all the interior from your car into that? Yeah, knew you had an engine and box bit happening, but mm.Daniel2019 wrote:http://ftoaustralia.com/v3/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=25954

When you accepted the car from Dwayne as a whole, I thought that THEN included the gearbox and engine from that.
ANYWAY.
How much do U-Haul charge Fraz?
I've only ever used the dodgy backend petrol station trailers.
Cable braking, twin axle.
Towed a Magna wagon on the back of our Hilux up there.
In total that was 2 Tonne with the trailer and the car...
Held up fine.
Cost me $240 for 2 days...

Re: Bonfire 2013
I have wired plenty of electric brake controllers at work. They are quite easy to do.fraz91 wrote:Alternatively, if anyone wants to help me wire in a brake controller, I'm sure I could write it off on tax...
4*wires...
1. Constant power direct to battery (auto reset circuit breaker)
2. Earth direct to battery
3. Brake light switch wire @ the brake pedal
4. To 7 pin trailer socket (fused close to the control unit)
I will see if I can find a used controller & circuit breaker @ work for you, no promises though.

Are you saying your mighty little Triton cant yank an engine-less FTO home?
A sh*tty UHaul trailer got my 'complete' parts FTO home from Goulburn for the grand total of 80 bucks...

Re: Bonfire 2013
We managed to tow a 2 tonnes worth of Torana + 3 random V8 engines home with UHaul trailers. They're bound by that magic engineering figure, the 'Factor of Safety = 3'
Ie, multiply by 3, whatever they recon is max load.

Re: Bonfire 2013
I towed the silver car back with a hire trailer last Friday with the Triton. That was down the mountain as well. No issues.
